Paris Saint-Germain News: The Parisians may have to sack Lionel Messi or Neymar Jr next season. This drastic step may have to be taken after Ligue 1 has proposed a new financial rule to control PSG’s “financial dominance”.
PSG have been a dominant force in France for the last decade. The Parisians have not finished outside the top two since the 2011/12 season. This drastic change came to the club after Qatar Sports Investment bought the club in 2011.
Since then, multiple superstars including Zlatan Ibrahimovic, Edinson Cavani, Thiago Silva, and David Beckham have played for the club. This has also helped Paris Saint-Germain add to their trophy haul!
PSG have won eight of the last eleven Ligue 1 championships including the 2021/22 league title. Hence this growing dominance of Paris Saint-Germain has now forced the French association to curb their financial power.

Paris Saint-Germain News: As per The Sun, The French League’s new proposed financial rules could have an adverse effect on PSG. This could even force the Parisians to sell Neymar or Lionel Messi, their two highest earners!
As per the new proposed rules, Ligue 1 clubs cannot have a wage bill greater than 70 percent of the club’s total income. Whereas, Paris Saint-Germain currently have a wage bill of 91 percent.
This is due to the fact that PSG currently have 18 of the 20 highest earners in Ligue 1. The only two non-Paris Saint-Germain players to be included in this list are Wissam Ben Yedder and Cesc Fabregas of Monaco.
Neymar is the highest earner in France currently with monthly wages totaling up to £3.4m. He is followed by Lionel Messi and Kylian Mbappe who have a wage bill of £2.8m and £1.85m respectively.
Another proposed rule change states that clubs cannot have a debt greater than their share capital. Hence, this could sound a death knell for PSG as they reportedly inject capital through the Qatar Sports Investment.
All these steps have been proposed chiefly to curb the “financial domination” of Paris Saint-Germain. Hence it has to be seen how the new Ligue 1 champions would react to this.

Paris Saint-Germain News: The Parisians are looking to offer Kylian Mbappe a new contract with even higher wages. Hence this would just add up even more percentage to PSG’s wage bill.
Owing to this, PSG might have to sell either Neymar or Lionel Messi if the proposal passes through in the coming days. Selling one of their highest earners would significantly ease the wage percentage. Hence this could be PSG’s only option in the near future.
