IPL 2022 LIVE: MS Dhoni celebrates India’s 2011 World cup win anniversary in style

IPL 2022 LIVE: The entire nation clearly remembers the historic year of 2011. India lifted the cricket world cup after 28 long years. MS Dhoni was the captain of India during 2011 and playing as a player for Chennai Super Kings this IPL.

It was on this day(02nd April, 2011) that India defeated Sri Lanka in the finals held at Wankhede Stadium, Mumbai. It was a memorable moment altogether for the hosts. They continued their superb form all throughout the tournament, to clinch the trophy at the end.

India only lost one league match to South Africa. And there was no turning back since then. There was another high scoring encounter against England, which ended in a tie. Apart from these 02, India did not lose a single match.

India demonstrated his stance when it defeated the defending champions, Australia in the quarter finals held at Ahmedabad. IPL 2022 LIVE: India emerged victorious as World Champions in 2011

Continuing their brilliant stint, India entered into the semi finals to meet arch rivals Pakistan. The legend, Sachin Tendulkar played a crucial knock of 85 runs in the match. As a result, he won the player of the match award as well.

Indian bowlers did a wonderful job of restricting Pakistan from reaching the target. Consequently, India reached the finals of the world cup for the first time since 2003. Sri Lanka became the other finalist to contest against their Asian counterpart.

In response, India did not have a dream start. Lasith Malinga got rid of Virender Sehwag and Sachin Tendulkar quite early in the innings. Indian team looked in some kind of trouble. However, it was Gautam Gambhir who scored a match saving innings of 97 runs in the match.

Virat Kohli also contributed 30 runs for the side. MS Dhoni promoted himself up the order and remained unbeaten till the end at 91 runs. Player of the tournament, Yuvraj Singh gave him company at the crease. MS Dhoni scored the winning runs with a massive 06 off Nuwan Kulasekara’s delivery.

CSK management planned this surprise for MS Dhoni in the camp. India’s then bowling coach Eric Simmons is also associated with the franchise in the IPL. There was a rich chocolate cake with pictures of MS Dhoni hitting the winning runs and the entire Indian team with the World cup.

Both MS Dhoni and Eric Simmons cut the cake, and there were happy faces all around. Upon cutting the cake, Dhoni immediately handed off the piece of cake to Eric who also did the same in return. All of the Chennai Super Kings players congratulated MS Dhoni for achieving such a magnificent stint for India.

MS Dhoni is undoubtedly the most successful captain for India till date. India has won several ICC trophies under his regime. His successful stint as a captain is also seen in IPL, wherein Chennai Super Kings is the most successful team, entering into the finals in almost all occasions.
