Football News: Callum Hudson-Odoi is thinking to represent Ghana internationally

Football News: Chelsea winger Callum Hudson Odoi is still considering a move to Ghana. The youngster has represented England but only as a teenager. Ghana has qualified for the World Cup and that can make Odoi change his mind.

The 21-year-old was a member of England’s World Cup-winning under-17 team in 2017. He is a full-time England international but hasn’t played in a long time for the Three Lions.

His only cap under Gareth Southgate came against Kosovo in 2019. He was not picked for the Euro 2020 squad and is not in contention for the World Cup squad either.

He is still allowed to swap countries under FIFA rules, and Ghana has looked into it. Hudson-Odoi has previously spoken out on the subject and World Cup can be a big factor in his decision.

Football News: What does the report say?

According to Goal, the Chelsea academy graduate is having thoughts of changing his international team. Bismark Odoi, the Chelsea player’s father, is a Ghanaian ex-pro who spent much of his career at Hearts of Oak in Accra.

In 2020, FIFA revised its rules to allow footballers to switch nationalities. According to the new rules, if anyone has played just three competitive international games before turning 21, they can change allegiance.

Hudson-Odoi might become the second England international to swap allegiances since the 2020 rule change. Steven Caulker represented Sierra Leone at the Africa Cup of Nations.

I don’t know,” was Hudson-Odoi’s response when asked about a nationality change earlier in 2022. “I am not sure about anything yet; I am waiting for the right time.”

Good Premier League representation for Ghana

Football News: Ghana’s squad already includes Crystal Palace attacker Jordan Ayew and Arsenal midfielder Thomas Partey. Partey scored the game-winning goal in Otto Addo’s team’s World Cup qualifying play-off.

In their first leg against Nigeria in Kumasi, the Black Stars drew 0-0 at home. With the away goals rule still in effect, Partey’s goal in a 1-1 draw in Abuja was enough to keep them in the competition.

Chris Hughton has been added as a technical advisor to Ghana’s national team. According to the reports, this could also have an impact on Hudson-future.

Hughton was associated with the manager’s job before Addo’s appointment. The former Irish international met with Bismark Odoi after learning of the FIFA eligibility restrictions.

Callum Hudson-Odoi won’t be the only English-born player in action for a different international side in Qatar if he chooses to represent Ghana.

Matty Cash was a member of Poland’s team that defeated Sweden in the European play-offs. Whereas Gio Reyna’s father Claudio played Premier League football in Sunderland.
