Formula 1 news: Masi must not be sacked, he did “right,” says Villeneuve

Formula 1 news: The Former Formula 1 champion Jacques Villeneuve made a comment on Michael Masi. He made the statement after the post-Abu Dhabi GP race controversy last season.

The Canadian said the FIA race Director Michael Masi should continue with his role.

Michael Masi’s role has seen a lot of attention since the incident occurred. Seemingly, at the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix, Michael had made a blunder. And, it resulted in Max Verstappen’s first-ever victory.

Max took advantage of the late car safety period. And, used the opportunity thrown at him very well. And, he defeated the seven-time title god Lewis Hamilton. Mercedes driver Hamilton was very close to a victory. But he had to lose it to Verstappen.

The actions of Michael Masi during the final race at Abu Dhabi have sparked controversy. In fact, a big controversy, both in and outside of Formula 1.

The Mercedes boss Toto Wolff has repeatedly asked for justice. He demanded satisfactory results from FIA and its investigation. Wolff recently gave a statement about his condition. He said that he, the whole Mecerces squad, and driver Lewis Hamilton remain “disillusioned”. They seek fair play in the sport, believing that Masi did them wrong.

There has been a lot of pressure on the Australian chief since then. But, the 1997 title champ Jacques Villeneuve feels otherwise. He said that as a race director, Masi did his job well. And, he worked as per the situation’s demand.

As per a report, Villeneuve has commented on the argument of FIA sacking Masi. He insisted that Masi should not be removed from his post.

He added that Masi has worked under immense pressure with the two squad principles. Referring to Toto Wolff In particular, he said Toto had yelled at him since the last five races. And, was still doing the same.

Saying he did “almost everything right”, Villeneuve pointed out something. He said that after that safety car, he had done everything perfectly. He said the “only” error was that he could have let the pack un-lap, one lap earlier. However, he insisted that the best solution was to restart the race.

He suggested that now everyone should not accuse Masi over and over again. He suggested that the FIA must focus on improvising things. Villeneuve added that Formula 1 needs more precise rules. And, “maybe” permanent stewards who are well aware and skilled.

He said there is only one alternative to this. And, that is that the FIA should make an allowance. He said the governing body of Formula 1 should let the drivers fight. And, punch each other after such incidents. When he made this satirical statement, he gave an example. He referred to the physical fight that occurred in America in the past.
