Ashes 2021-22: Confident Joe Root declares England will play for pride in the fifth test

Ashes 2021-22: England and Australia will play against each other in the fifth test match from 14 January. Moreover, it will be taking place at the Blundstone Arena in Bellerive, Australia.

However, Australia have already gone on to retain the Ashes after a stellar performance in this series. The Aussies have been thoroughly dominant against a weak and vulnerable visiting side led by Joe Root.

Australia are currently leading by 3-0 against England in this Ashes series. This means that Australia have gone on to retain the Ashes for a second consecutive time against England. This after Australia drew the Ashes series in England a couple of years ago.

But Australia have been confident enough to dominate against England and their players. They went on to perform quite well in the first three test matches of this Ashes series. Their bowling and batting as well have gone on to look dominating.

Mitchell Starc, Pat Cummins and Josh Hazelwood have shown no mercy against the English batting lineup. While on the other hand, top-class English bowlers like James Anderson, Stuart Broad and Mark Wood have looked pale throughout the Australian tour.

This has been the case with the English batting lineup as well. Rory Burns and Haseeb Hameed have looked pale as their openers. Even Joe Root could not work his magic by carrying the team on his shoulders. As a result of that, England went on to put up a horrible performance.

But things looked positive for the visitors fought back hard in the fourth test match. England went on to avoid a massive loss as they succeeded to draw the Sydney test.

Australians were quite frustrated as they missed the win by just one wicket. England were lucky as they snuck out a draw.

However, England and Australia will lock horns again in the fifth test match. This will also be the final Ashes test match of the Australian tour. And England will be relieved that their misery is finally pointing towards a temporary end.

But England captain Joe Root has sent a warning message to the Australians. He has gone on to put up that England will fight for their pride in the fifth and final test match. They will not back down without a fight in the showdown test.

Joe Root said, “On the back of three very difficult games where we underperformed … to come back and get something from the last game showed a great amount of character and something definitely for us to build on moving forward.”

He further added, “There was an element of relief managing to get through those last few overs but the desire, the fight and the pride that everyone showed on that last day is something we have to harness.”
