Formula 1 News: Red Bull chief threatens to leave F1 following Mercedes protests

Formula 1 News: Max Verstappen became the world champion of Formula 1 after conquering the race in the final lap at the Abu Dhabi GP. His maiden world title also denied Lewis Hamilton to win his record eighth world title.

However, nowhere near the last lap, it seemed like the Dutchman will be winning the championship. However, a few unusual calls by the FIA race director Michael Masi under the garb of deciding the championship under proper racing pushed this outcome.

The decision by the FIA was unacceptable to Mercedes. Team principal Toto Wolff was heard saying on the radio “No, no, Michael, this is so not right.” In response, Masi said: “It’s called a motor race.”

Nevertheless, Mercedes soon after the race complained about the final standings, but FIA rejected their pleas. Now, the Silver Arrows has submitted their right to review the stewards’ decision.

Formula 1 News: Red Bull threats leaving F1

Meanwhile, Red Bull also prepared any arms that would be required to battle a legal complaint by Mercedes. As the Brackley based team were even reported to have a Queen’s counsel with them prepared even before the race.

Red Bull also got their legal aid in this process. Amidst all of this, Red Bull Chief Helmut Marko is disappointed with FIA’s delay in making the decision. The governing body took four hours to announce its verdict.

So, getting irked by this act by FIA, Marko has warned F1 to leave the sport, if such conducts continue. He even targeted Mercedes for lodging such complaints as the title has been decided.

That speaks in favour of the attitude of what I believe to be a bad loser who makes such protests and objections,” said Marko to F1 Maximal. “We do not care. We are now the moral winner, one way or another.”

Formula 1 News: Fernando Alonso calls it a justice

While a considerable size of the F1 fanbase thinks that Hamilton has been robbed. Fernando Alonso holds the opinion that it’s a sort of justice. He believes that Verstappen has faced several moments of bad luck this year, so this evens out.

He certainly references the collision in Silverstone that gave him a 52 crash. Also, then the damage he obtained in Hungary, forced him to lose more points. On both occasions, a Mercedes driver was at the fault.

So, Alonso thinks while it was dramatic, it can be called justice. So maybe, the decision making by the governing body has a fault? And many ex F1 drivers have pointed this out.

Former F1 world champion Damon Hill thinks FIA has been pretty inconsistent with their decision this year. Though, he also concedes Masi was in a tough spot to make a decision.
