IPL 2022 – Sanjiv Goenka says, “Our strategy is to build team around young players”

IPL 2022 – On Monday, BCCI announced that two new teams will be part of upcoming IPL 2022 season after the recent auction. CVC Capital and RPSG won the bidding for the two new teams Ahmedabad franchise and Lucknow franchise, respectively.

Sanjiv Goenka of Lucknow franchise also owned Rising Pune Supergiant team who was the part of IPL in 2016-17. In his recent interaction, the franchise owner addressed the obvious reason behind going for such a base of INR 7090 crore.

“Keeping the passion aside now, it’s no big business to invest in the tournament like IPL. With such success in the recent times, the value of the franchise going to be near 10000 crore in 3 or 4 years,” Sanjiv Goenka said.

Sanjiv Goenka says this time around they will go for young players with great potentials in the IPL 2022 mega auction to build a team of young players who will be the reason for success in the years to come.

Meanwhile, former Chairman Lalit Modi has made some serious remarks over Sanjiv Goenka. He said that the owner has been involved with betting companies in the past. Maybe that’s new rule that betting companies nowadays have the right to be part of IPL 2022 says Lalit Modi.

Rising Pune Supergiant in 2016 and 2017 season

Sanjiv Goenka, who also owned Rising Pune Supergiant in 2016 and 2017, captained by Steve Smith. In 2016 Rising Pune Supergiant came 7th. But in 2017 the team went on to play the finals against Mumbai Indians but eventually lost to them by 1 run in a low-scoring match.

After defeating Mumbai Indians in the first qualifier of 2017, the advantage was with Steve Smith and co. Mumbai Indians captain Rohit Sharma, after winning the toss in the finals, decided to bat first, but the decision went against them when they were restricted to 79 runs for the loss 7 wickets.

But late contribution from Krunal Pandya helped Mumbai Indians to reach 129 runs for the loss of 8 wickets in their allotted 20 overs. An easy chase for the team who made to the finals first time, but it went wrong once the wickets start falling.

Rising Pune Supergiant required 11 runs off 6 balls with Steve Smith and Manoj Tiwary on crease, but Mitchell Johnson did it all to help Mumbai Indians to lift title for the third time. As both batsmen got out and Rising Pune Supergiant fell short of the target and lost the match by 1 run.

In the season, the team had won 10 games out of 16 and ended up as runner ups. In the next season, the former teams returned, which were banned, so eventually Rising Pune Supergiant and Gujarat Lions could not take part again.

IPL 2022 season schedule with 74 games

Apart from RPSG, the other bidder who has brought the Ahmedabad franchise is CVC Capital. Both teams will be part of the 10 teams in the upcoming edition of the cash-rich league.

The Upcoming season of IPL 2022 will be the second season after 2011 to feature 10 teams in 74 games to play at different venues of India.
