English cricketer arrested for sending inappropriate messages to minor girls

Cricketers usually make the headlines for all the right reasons. They steal the spotlight when they achieve a milestone during the game. Every Cricketer has his day in his cricketing career.

When a batsman scores a century or when a bowler takes a fifer, they drew praises from every nook and corner of the cricket fraternity. On the dark side, that’s not the same case with other cricketers.

Some cricketers have tarnished their own reputation by doing something against the spirit of cricket. We have seen cricketers involved in infamous spot-fixing allegations.

On the other hand, some cricketers were involved in scandals that rocked the cricket fraternity. Recently, an English cricketer made the headlines for the wrong reason.

The 29-year-old English club cricketer by the name of David Hymers did something against moral values. The club cricketer sent some inappropriate messages to underage schoolgirls.

While David Hymers was training on the field at Tynemouth Cricket Club in Northumberland, he was approached by a group of paedophile hunters who notified him that the cops were on their way.

Sent pictures of inappropriate parts

As per chats obtained by The Mirror, a group identified as ‘Guardians of the North’ created fake profiles of underage girls on social media in a bid to catch Hymers in the act. The report says that Hymers was well aware that they were schoolgirls.

But he still continued to send explicit messages to them using the same chat-up line. The club cricketer was involved in this shameful activity since 2020. He was arrested after posting on his social media handle about a game he was going to take part in.

His activity alerted paedophile hunters to come with the cops. The report adds that Hymers sent pics of his private body parts during the conversation with the imposter. The latter tricked him into believing he was chatting with an underage girl.

ECB suspends Hymers

The incident became viral all over the internet. Meanwhile, the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) suspended him from all cricketing activities overseen by the board. An ECB spokesperson also said that the board will manage its own disciplinary inquiry upon finishing the legal proceedings against Hymers.

The club cricketer was ordered by the Newcastle Crown Court to a community order for up to 3 years with sex offender programme requirements. On the other hand, an Australian cricketer, who represented Worcestershire County Cricket Club in England was involved in another scandal. He was convicted and sentenced to 5 years in jail after being found guilty of rape.

The cops arrested him after his Whatsapp-based sexual scandal in 2017. The cricketer identified as Alex Hepburn allegedly raped a sleeping woman as part of a “sexual conquest game” he played on the online portal.
