Liverpool impressed with Dutch youngster on the Euro showdown

Jurgen Klopp’s Liverpool finished the last season without much damage because of the final matchday action. They managed to qualify for the Champions League amidst the defensive challenges due to unexpected injuries.

The Reds are in search of new additions in the transfer market for enough backups in the squad. They have sealed the transfer of young French center-back Ibrahima Konate from RB Leipzig earlier this month.

According to reports, Liverpool are closely watching the Dutch star of Euro 2020, Donyell Malen. The 22-year-old forward plays as a forward for Eredivisie club PSV Eindhoven.

His contract with PSV Eindhoven runs till the summer of 2024. His season stat also impresses the leading sides of Europe. Malen scored 27 times and assisted for 10 from 45 fixtures in all competitions. (Transfermarkt)

Malen had a stunning season in Eredivise and continued that form with the national side in Euro 2020. He had great showtime in the fixture against North Macedonia on matchday three of the group stage.

Liverpool interested in Malen:

As per the reports, Donyell Malen holds a market value of £34 million. But, the Merseyside giants will go for negotiations for the Dutch ace. The pandemic affected the finance of the club and they are not able to spend such an amount this summer.

The departure of another Dutchman Gini Wijnaldum already left Liverpool in search of midfield additions this summer. The exit of Wijnaldum to PSG will affect the pace of play in the midfield of the Reds.

According to Sky Sport Germany,  Jurgen Klopp is prioritizing defensive additions rather than going for forwards after a season of injuries at the backline. Also, the rise of Diogo Jota in the frontline is a relief for the German head coach.

The first choice trio of Anfield, Mane-Salah-Firmino can win competitions in a complete squad. The creative supply from the backline is what they lacked last season. Also, keeping clean sheets became a major concern for Klopp.

However, Liverpool are aiming for a fresh start next season with all their superstars back in action. The Egyptian ace Mohammed Salah is expected to start the season in full power. There were talks between Egypt FA and Liverpool regarding the player’s availability for Tokyo Olympics 2020.

“We contacted Liverpool to allow Salah to join the Olympic team, and they said they were waiting for the approval of the technical staff,” the Egyptian FA’s president Ahmed Megahed said.

But the updates say Salah won’t be playing for the national side in Tokyo because the club needs him at the beginning of the season. Also, Salah is expected to miss the Africa Cup of Nations games next January. However, Donyell Malen’s case is still open. Maybe the Euro 2020 campaign can offer him a new life in Europe. The Netherlands are taking on the Czech Republic in the round of 16 on 27th June which will decide the future of the Dutch in the competition.
