WTC Final: Ravindra Jadeja trolls cricket fraternity with a ‘fake catch’

Indian all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja hardly made an impact in the ICC WTC Final against New Zealand at The Rose Bowl in Southampton. His batting and bowling performances were far from pleasing.

Jadeja contributed just 15 runs including 2 fours in the first innings and was dismissed by Trent Boult. He bowled only 7 overs where he managed to take only 1 wicket. New Zealand got support in the form of Tim Southee in the first innings.

When India removed 9 wickets, Southee kept on mounting pressure on the Indians by smashing 2 sixes and a four. However, Jadeja ensured to dismiss the tail-ender, in what was his only wicket in the first innings.

Talking about his performance in the second innings, Jadeja once again failed to deliver the goods. The veteran all-rounder scored 16 runs to his name including 2 fours before being dismissed by Neil Wagner.

Team India were bowled out for 170 in the second innings. Rishabh Pant top-scored with 41 while Rohit Sharma scored 30 at the top of the order. Tim Southee took 4 wickets while Trent Boult took 3 wickets.

Kyle Jamieson took the prized scalps of Cheteshwar Pujara and Virat Kohli on the final day. New Zealand came right back into the game and they were tasked to chase 139 in 53 overs on the reserve day.

Ravindra Jadeja trolls us with a fake catch

Ravindra Jadeja might not have contributed well with the bat and ball but he was sharp and decisive on the field. The 32-year-old stalwart is widely recognized as the greatest fielder in the international cricket.

The Saurashtra cricketer saved some crucial runs on the field with his brilliant fielding efforts. During New Zealand’s run-chase, Jadeja trolled the entire cricket fraternity with a fake catching attempt.

The incident happened when Kiwis were batting on 47 for the loss of 2 wickets. The likes of Kane Williamson and Ross Taylor were at the crease. The experienced duo were trying their best to tick the scoreboard in the pursuit of chasing the target.

Meanwhile, New Zealand captain Kane Williamson who was batting on 8 managed to hit Mohammed Shami’s delivery for a shot. However, Kane’s shot went straight towards Jadeja who was positioned at the off side.

All of a sudden, Jadeja caught the ball and threw it high in the air. His actions even convinced the viewers to believe that Jadeja took a catch to dismiss the New Zealand captain. However, upon reviewing the TV replay, Jadeja did nothing but troll the cricket fraternity with his fake catch.

Meanwhile, the video clip of Jadeja’s antics has gone viral on social media. On the other hand, Taylor and Kane got well set in the crease. Earlier, Ravichandran Ashwin dismissed Tom Latham (9) and Devon Conway (19). New Zealand scored 85/2 in 32 overs and they still require 54 runs to win the WTC Final in 21 overs.
