Thomas Tuchel gives Chelsea fans an update on N’Golo Kante injury

Chelsea received a major boost to their UEFA Champions League aspirations as they defeated Leicester City on Tuesday night. The Blues won 2-1 against the Foxes as Antonio Rudiger and Jorginho got on the scoresheet. But they lost midfielder N’Golo Kante to injury.

The revenge is achieved by Chelsea as they go ahead of Leicester City in the Premier League table. After the disappointing performance against them at Wembley in the FA Cup, Chelsea did well to come back.

Moreover, now the pressure is on Leicester City. They play Tottenham Hotspur on the final day. That will not be an easy challenge as Tottenham Hotspur want Europa League. On the other hand, Chelsea are playing against Aston Villa.

Once again VAR came to Leicester City’s rescue in yesterday’s game. Two Chelsea goals( both scored by Timo Werner) had to be reversed. The first one to offside and the second a controversial handball call.

However early on in the second half, Antonio Rudiger came to Chelsea’s rescue. This is the German’s first goal in the Premier League having last scored against Leicester the previous season. A huge roar came from the 10,000 odd Chelsea supporters.

Timo Werner once again came to the action as he was brought down in the penalty box. Jorginho calmly deposited the ball in the bottom right corner. This is his seventh league goal this season and is Chelsea’s highest goal scorer.

Thomas Tuchel talks about N’golo Kante injury scare:

However, one worry arose for Chelsea fans as their main man, N’Golo Kante had to be substituted. Kante was replaced by the returning Matteo Kovacic as he limped off in the first half itself.

Matteo Kovacic didn’t have the best of returning matches as he gave away the Leicester City goal. But Chelsea fans will be worried about N’Golo Kante’s injury as he’s been their main player in the midfield this season.

He has been in terrific form in the UEFA Champions League. Moreover, he has been the main driving force behind Chelsea’s midfield domination against Atletico Madrid and Real Madrid CF.

And with the final against Manchester City just two weeks away, fans will be crossing their fingers. However, Thomas Tuchel has ensured that the injury is not deadly.

N’Golo is not injured. He told me – and I understood him right in French – he went out before an injury. He felt his hamstrings and was worried that he would get injured if he continued to play. So we put Kova in and that was a risk because he was more or less on the bench for 20 minutes, but he played 60.

We took some risks but it was the moment to take risks as it was a game of the highest importance at the end of the season. I am happy it worked out. Hopefully, NG will come back as we are a different team with NG and without NG. We compensated very well without him today.”
