5 Talking Points as Man United defeats Burnley to extend their winning run

Manchester United hosted Burnley at Old Trafford today and registered 3-1 over the Clarets. Mason Greenwood started the game alongside Marcus Rashford, Paul Pogba, and Bruno Fernandes at the front.

It was Chris Wood who was leading Burnley’s line with Brownhill behind him. Mason Greenwood and Edinson Cavani got their names on the scoresheet whereas it was James Tarkowski who scored the visitor’s only goal.

5. Edinson Cavani, please stay!

This man is just too good to take a step down just yet. He has everything which is required by a striker who plays for one of the best European clubs. Since coming on at the half-time for Fred, Cavani worked tirelessly as he does every time.

His movements are so good that no defence can just stay and block his path. With Pogba and Bruno behind him, one knows that Cavani will surely get quality service.

The 34-year old striker scored the third goal for the Red Devils which eventually killed the game for visitors. It was his eighth goal of the Premier League. With his contract running out this summer, United needs to make sure that he signs at least a one-year extension.

4. Mason Greenwood proving his critics wrong

Mason Greenwood faced massive uproar when he and Phil Foden broke the Covid protocols to invite models in their hotel room while on international duty. Since then, Greenwood has failed to shine as he was doing in the last season. But things have changed. He bagged a brace today and takes his tally to four goals in the last three games. Form of his life!

3. Is Burnley facing a relegation feat?

Burnley looked poised to take a point from Old Trafford this afternoon but a late flourish from the home team will leave them with disappointment. With this defeat, Burnley remained in the 17th spot with 33 points.

They are above Fulham and have six more points than Fulham. The alarm bells should not go on just yet but Sean Dyche to win at least one of the next two games so that the pressure can be eased up.

2. Too late for Manchester United to catch cross-town rivals?

The Red Devils have decreased the gap between them and Manchester City to eight points. With six games to go, we cannot see Man City losing three games and United winning every game from here. Although it has been a terrific renaissance in the league for Manchester United, this last catchup might be too late. The title is coming to Manchester surely, but it looks to be heading at the Blue corner of Manchester for now.

1. THE 12TH MAN Opinion

As mentioned above, today’s third goal was Cavani’s eight for the Premier League season. But when looked at all competitions, this is Cavani’s 10th goal of the season.

This is a great feat for the player who has struggled to adapt to the change in culture, language, and atmosphere. Even at this age, he is showing everyone what and how a striker should play.

Donny Van De Beek has found it hard to break into the team. Today, Solskjaer introduced him in the 80th minute and he bagged his first Premier League assist. Hopefully, this can be a new start for this amazing youngster. Also, a very Happy Birthday Donny!
