Chelsea surprised the football world when they announced Petr Cech returns to the squad. The club legend is in the squad only on a temporary basis, given the unprecedented circumstances caused by the coronavirus pandemic. The decision has been taken as a precautionary measure by the club and manager Frank Lampard.

The Blues have already signed Edu Mendy from Rennes and they also have veteran Willy Caballero and Kepa Arrizabalaga in their roaster. Cech is there in case all three are not available due to injury, suspension, or coronavirus. He is training alone at this moment. Though the situation is unlikely to happen the Blues is taking no chances.

Since the arrival of Frank Lampard, Kepa has been in awful form for Chelsea. Last season Lampard was so fed up with him that he preferred to play second choice, Willy Caballero in crucial games instead of the Spaniard.

The former Atletico Bilbao goalkeeper was linked with an exit as well this summer. Chelsea paid a world transfer record fee of £71.6 million to replace Thibault Courtois in 2018.

Lampard night pick Petr Cech over Kepa Arrizabalaga ?

However former England striker Darren Bent has said that he would prefer to play 38 years Petr Cech over Kepa Arrizabalaga. He insists that even if he had Kepa as an option, he would still prefer to play Petr Cech over him.

Darren Bent believes that Kepa’s constant blunders are the reason why he would choose Cech over him. The latter was one of the best goalkeepers in the Premier League for Chelsea. He also has the record of most clean sheets in the Premier League with 228.

These are some big boots to fill and it looks like they are too big for Kepa. Bent cites that every time the Spaniard plays he makes a mistake and it costs Chelsea valuable points. Thus he would have no choice but to play Petr Cech over him.

The former Aston Villa striker also pointed out that the Spaniard can’t start every game for Chelsea as he makes so many mistakes. He fears that if Lampard continues to do so it might even cost his job at the club. Chelsea already has a stop-start beginning to the 2020-21 season.

I would pick anybody except Kepa, probably would go Petr Cech over Kepa but then you think to yourself that he has no confidence already, it is gone, it is on the floor, he has got none. If you go and play Petr Cech over him as well, what happens then? But what else can you do? Every time he plays Kepa he makes a mistake, he costs us goals and he costs us points. If you keep putting a goalkeeper out there and he keeps making mistakes, costing you points, by the way, you can’t keep putting him out there. He might cost Frank Lampard his job if he doesn’t win many games

Roman Abramovich, Max Allegri links?

If reports are believed to be true, Roman Abramovich is considering to appoint Massimilano Allegri, if he decides to sack Frank Lampard. The Italian has a fantastic record of winning domestic titles with Juventus. He also had a good experience in the Champions League.

Allegri won five Serie A titles and four Copa Italia titles as well. He also reached the Champions League twice. Though under him the Bianconeri did not play the expansive attacking football rather they were more pragmatic and defensive.

Frank Lampard is currently under pressure after an underwhelming start to the season. They lost 2-0 to Liverpool and they were unconvincing in their subsequent consecutive draws against Southampton and Sevilla at Stamford Bridge.

The former Derby manager has also come under strong criticism from some section of fans for his alleged bias towards Mason Mount. They have also pointed out that the likes of Fiakyo Tomori and Callum Hudson Odoi are being treated unfairly by Lampard, while others have been given preferential treatment despite their poor performances.
