Arsenal is set to receive another late bid for Lucas Torreira after the Gunners turned down one offer from Atletico Madrid, as it didn’t reach the club’s valuation. However, the Spanish side seems determined enough to sign him as they prepare another offer for the 24-year old.

Both clubs are looking for ways to bolster their midfield option. According to the Athletic. Torreira has emerged as one of the top targets for Diego Someone’s side. They have been keen on signing Torreira on a season-long loan. This, however, was not accepted by Arsenal who wants to raise funds for their midfield transfers.

Currently, Arsenal is chasing Houssem Aouar in order to strengthen the midfield area. Aouar is Arsenal’s long-standing target and the club is aware that they could only meet his valuation after they arrange adequate funds.

Arsenal has set a price tag of €24 million for Torreira this summer. But Atlético is only keen on a loan deal and claimed the club is short of finances due to the impact of the coronavirus pandemic. Arsenal has remained keen on the Thomas Partey deal but was balked to pay his £45m release clause.

The Spanish side has already turned down the swap deal offer and is unwilling to part ways with him in a swap offer. The club is holding firm on their Ghana international and would only let him leave if the clause is met. This way, Houssem Aouar is the cheaper option and more reliable.

The departure of Torreira will make a space for Aouar’s arrival

Lucas Torreira’s departure has edged closer and his sale could get confirmed in the coming days. After he has fallen down the pecking order under Mikel Arteta at Arsenal. The 24-year old sustained an ankle injury at the end of last season. While only managed to play for a few minutes in the same season. Toerrira’s departure would not only make space for Aouar arrival but it will also aid in making a swoop for Aouar.

Serie A side Torino has also registered their interest in him. However, Atletico Madrid is the one leading the race. Diego Simeone’s side is ready to offer a ‘new’ offer for Torreira in the near future the Daily Mail says.

The club is aware of Torreira’s condition at the Emirates stadium. Head coach Diego Simeone has personally approached him if the two of the parties could discuss the deal. Simeone has assured Torreirra that he will be an important first-team player for the club as per reports in Atletico.
