The former English footballer suggests Arsenal strike a bid for Manchester City center-back John Stones for the forthcoming transfer window.

Skysports Pundit Jamie Redknapp has suggested in the Daily Mail that Arsenal must prepare a transfer move for Manchester City central defender John Stones. Redknapp also believes that John Stones may be the right man to fix Arsenal defensive woes.

Coming towards Arsenal’s condition in the defensive field, it has been a turbulent season. Firstly Arsenal was kicked out from the Champions League and is unlikely to qualify for next season. Arsenal is currently placed at the ninth position in the Premier League standings and their only hope is Europa League.

The defensive woes were exposed after the Sunday 2-1 defeat to Tottenham Hotspur. The Gunners left far too much space for Tottenham to get the ball. The hope of Europa League qualification now hangs with a loose strand Mikel Arteta hope for European qualifications is hanging with a loose thread.

John Stones has arguably struggled for sufficient game time and thus has been tremendously inconsistent this season. However, should he begin playing every League game for Manchester City till the end of the season? He will be able to give only a few add on to the number of games played for City in total.

John Stones was signed by Manchester City for a buyout fee of £47.5 million along with £2.7 million add ons. This made him the second most expensive Centre back after David Luiz.

However, the ex Everton star failed to become a key player under Pep Guardiola. Stones’ lack of form and season filled with injuries couldn’t justify the amount paid to bring him to Etihad.

Redknapp shared his opinion regarding Stones

He suggested that Mikel Arteta is well aware of Stones’ condition and has known him since he was an assistant coach at City. Stones who are low in decision making and unaware of putting the ball into row Z.

Skysports pundit also praised the Englishman and added that he’s strong, brave in air. While being vulnerable on the field and making mistakes. Moreover, his mistakes were taken into consideration due to the lump sum amount Manchester City paid to bring him.

However, he backs Mikel Arteta and convinced that the player is just 26 and is young enough to mold into Arteta’s style. Secondly, they both know each other from old times, so his addition would be a good fit.

Making a move for Stones who still has room to become better is a good decision. Stones will bring back the lost energy at Emirates besides David Luiz. But the problem lies in the number of center-backs Arsenal has. Since Luiz has agreed on his extension at Emirates there is no room for a new center-back.

Thus, Mikel Arteta must offload one of the center-backs from his squad in order to add John Stones to his squad.
