Chelsea will be looking to do possible swap deals. There are five possible deals for summer.
As we all know clubs have been financially affected due to the COVID 19 situation. There is an indication that we could see more of trades and transfers than big-money signings for clubs. Chelsea would be no different.
The club along with United is one of the few clubs to not have opted for the Government Furlough Scheme. There have been no job layoffs or pay cuts in staff or player salaries. The club has announced they will back everything up till June 30. The players have also been asked to help in Charitable Causes in these tough times.
Following all this if they were too out and out splash money on players, it would certainly tarnish their reputation. So it looks like swaps and player add ons will be the key to the future.
5 Potential swap moves for Chelsea to look at
1) Onana for Kepa
Andre Onana is having a pretty good season for Ajax this season. He is their first-choice keeper and has 8 clean sheets in 24 games in the Eredivisie. The player is one of the players of Ajax to keep an eye on.
Lampard has identified that he needs a better candidate as Chelsea’s goalie. While Caballero has been deemed suitable for backup. There have been links to Onana moving to Chelsea. While a direct purchase would be difficult without offloading Kepa, a swap deal is on Lampard’s agenda. According to the Standard Onana too wants an Ajax exit.
2) Miralem Pjanic for Jorginho
Jorginho has been rumored with a Chelsea exit. The player has also worked with Sarri when he was in Napoli before joining Chelsea. There were rumors of them reuniting at Juventus last year but it didn’t happen.
Although there could be a better chance again here for both teams. Juventus have been puzzling over Pjanic’s future and there are hints of him being available for a transfer. Chelsea are interested in the offer which could see Pjanic joining the blues and Jorginho joining Juventus.
3) Moussa Dembele for Michy Batshuayi
Moussa Dembele has had links of a move to Stamford Bridge for quite some time now. Chelsea is not the only PL club who want him in their squad. The Frenchman has 16 goals and 2 assists in 27 appearances for Lyon.
As Dembele is a key part of their squad, Lyon would be hesitant to sell him just for money. Mitchy Batshuayi along with add on cash would be a good offer for Lyon to consider. Batshuayi came from the Ligue 1 and wouldn’t have much difficulty in settling there.
4) Alex Telles for Emerson Palmeiri
The left-back position is one of the key priorities for Frank Lampard. As of now Chelsea plays Azpilicueta as a makeshift left-back. Both Emerson and Alonso have had performance and injury issues. Chelsea was linked with signing Alex Telles from Porto.
Porto could be convinced for allowing the left-back to move with Emerson added in the deal. The Brazilian has potential in his game but just couldn’t settle in Premier League. Maybe he will have better luck in the Liga Zon Sagres.
5) Upamecano for Christensen
Christensen has been in and out of the team for Lampard and hasn’t really been able to settle his place in the squad. The player also had issues with injuries. Lampard is trying to improve the squad defensively and Christensen is one of the players who might face the ax.
Upamecano has been sensational for Leipzig this season. He has been a key part of the team sensational run in the Champions League this season. Chelsea is hoping of luring him to Stamford Bridge. Christensen has played for Gladbach on loan from Chelsea and has experience in the Bundesliga. Christensen with add on cash could be enough to woo Leipzig.
