Manchester United’s hopes of landing Sancho may rest on Man City

Manchester United are not in a brilliant situation for signing Sancho, Woodward busts out the myth.

Manchester United was said to be one of the clubs handling the COVID 19 situation ideally. It is also a public belief that they have mass funds at their disposal for Sancho. But as easy as it may be to believe that, it certainly isn’t the truth.

Financial implications are faced by each and every club right now and United is also one of them. Manchester United Chief Ed Woodward revealed that the club debt has risen to £429 million. Losses for the last financial quarter, which runs from January 1 to March 31, 2020, amounted to £7.3 million.

Although the debt figure looks huge it is mainly due to lack of Champions League football. Another reason is that is Man United are handling the wages of all staff and players by themselves. And not taking the aid of the government’s Furlough scheme, leading by example.

Ed Woodward- It is unreal to assume that United will splash cash on Sancho

But whatever the reasons may be it does affect United’s approach in the transfer market. Woodward said: “Our focus remains on the health and well-being of our colleagues, fans and partners around the world and we are extremely proud of how those connected to the club have responded during this crisis.

According to the PeoplesPerson, Ed Woodward has ruled out any big-money signing’s in this window. Although what Woodward basically says is that any 100 million signing proposition is out of the question. Which makes people believe a move for Sancho in this window is off.

But that isn’t definitively the case.

Manchester’s City future will play a key role

United’s ambitions for Sancho do depend on City’s ban ruling

Manchester City received a 2-year transfer ban from the Champions League and a fine of 25 million for breaching fair play regulations. Man City have a hearing regarding the matter at the Court of Arbitration for Sport next month.

United are also keeping a close eye on City’s future. Their Champions League Qualification might depend on it. If United can’t beat Chelsea for the 4th spot then City’s exit is their best hope.

Also if United qualify they will receive a revenue boost of 50 million dollars. Which will help solidify their aim to bring Sancho to Old Trafford? Also Champions League revenue in terms of promotion and jersey sales will help release the club debt.

United also have a tactic of waiting it out to sign their targets. Man City’s fate will be clear in a month’s time. And United are willing to wait. Another important aspect is that Sancho has a priority of playing Champions League Football.

So say United fail to qualify Sancho will not be agreeing to a move. However United can still close down the gap between them and Chelsea. Dortmund has also said Sancho can leave if he wants to. In the 2 games that Dortmund has played since the restart Sancho has not been given a start. It looks like the time is ripe for entering negotiations.

Now it seems United have it all to do. The club could also try offering a lower initial bid along with add ons in Sancho’s contract which will ultimately benefit Dortmund. But will they accept such terms is uncertain?
