Man United set to change the role of the French international against Chelsea.
After having a hectic schedule of games and clashes the European teams are enjoying their mid-season player break. United are currently in Marbella for a winter break preparing head ahead of their Premier League Clash against Chelsea after the international break. Anthony Martial will be available for the showdown at Stamford Bridge.
Having signed for United in 2015, this September will mark five years since Martial made his United debut, against Liverpool with a splendid goal in a 3-1 win.
By that time the jury came up with a conclusion that the club had signed a winner. The forward was more like having the desired potential to be great and details also emerged about a Ballon d’Or clause in his contract.
But during these five years, United Hierarchy remains out on the France international.
United’s last Premier League clash was against Wolves who are a better team in performance. The 24-year-old was handed with the task of driving his side towards victory.
With no Marcus Rashford in the squad and Bruno Fernandes in the side. He was believed to show he can be the star of the show. But Martial was unable to concede a goal.
Martial completely disappointed against Wolves but was also lucky to stay on the pitch. Meanwhile United went busy to get the game-winning goal.
The new transfer signing Bruno Fernandes was expected to break the deadlock instead. He managed to put with the efforts from outside the area.
At the start of this season, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer made a decision to offload Romelu Lukaku to Inter Milan. The departure was necessary as it would not just help the teenager Mason Greenwood but Anthony Martial too.
Question is- Will Martial be a good striker?
Martial appears to have good potential only when he has Rashford beside him. The absence of England international affects his performance widely.
Now that United has Odion Ighalo in their ranks, Solskjaer could be forced to change Martial’s role in the upcoming clash.
His debut goal against Liverpool came after the puzzled run from the left side where he cut and curled and stunner past Simon Mignolet.
United Winger James, is struggling on the left, and this is the time when Red Devils should make the decision to move Martial there instead.
This will then allow Ighalo to occupy the middle. While there are still doubts emerging over the quality of the Nigerian. But one cannot ignore his goalscoring records.
