Barcelona eyeing to land Brazilian attacker-defender duo in January transfer window

Barcelona are reportedly interested in signing both Gremio attacker Everton and Flamingo defender Rodrigo Caio during the upcoming January transfer window.

FC Barcelona’s famous history with Brazilian players could be set to obtain a whole new chapter in the coming transfer window with the La Liga giants looking to land two stars from the South American side. Barcelona have had a rich tradition of Brazilian players having boasted the likes of Ronaldinho, Rivaldo, Neymar and Philippe Coutinho in the recent past and Arthur and Neto at present.

Two more stars from the five time FIFA World Cup winning nation could be all set to join the Catalan Giants who are looking to spend heavily in the Upcoming January Transfer window. According to a report by Mundo Deportivo, the Spanish side have identified 23-year-old Gremio forward Everton Soares and 26-year-old Flamengo defender Rodrigo Caio as potential targets ahead of the start of 2020.

The report claims that a team of scouts from the La Liga giants were present at a recent clash between Flamengo and Gremio in the Copa Libertadores where the pair caught their attention. Everton has netted 63 goals in his career at Gremio and his fine performances last season saw him earning a spot in his national team for this summer’s Copa America. The 23 year old ended as the tournament as the top scorer for his nation.

The 23 year old forward has bagged 12 goals and six assists in 32 games so far this season for Gremio, coupled with three goals in 14 apperances for Brazil. Caio, meanwhile, came through the youth system at Sao Paulo and went on to represent the Brazilian club on close to 300 occasions before a switch to Flamengo in the latter stages of 2018. The 26 year old central defender has also won four caps from the Brazilian national team.

Caio missed out on the 2018 World Cup due to an ACL injury and has suffered several fitness issues over the years. The defender is all set to feature in the upcoming Copa Libertadores final against River Plate next month. The 26 year old could come in as a replacement for Umtiti if the Frenchman can’t overcome his troublesome knee problems or a long term replacement for Gerard Pique who turns 33 next February.
