John Terry urges Chelsea boss Maurizio Sarri to make major change for Manchester City final!

The Chelsea legend wants Jorginho to play in this position.

Chelsea are going through tough time. What started as a wonderful season for them is now turning out to be a bad one. Chelsea have only scored once in their last three Premier Leagues. They are yet to register their first away Premier League win in 2019. After their 6-0 humiliating defeat by Manchester City there was an inquest held by Chelsea. With pressure of delivering victories increasing on Sarri and rumors of Zidane replacing him a victory in the Carabao Cup is a must. Former Chelsea captain John Terry wants Sarri to make one change in today’s final against Manchester City.

John Terry believes Maurizio Sarri should play Chelsea star N’Golo Kante in a more defensive position against Manchester City. The Blues have endured a poor run under struggling manager Sarri but have the chance to win some silverware on Sunday in the form of the EFL Cup. Defending Premier League champions City, currently top of the table, stand in Chelsea’s way and will be buoyed by the recent 6-0 win over Sarri’s side. Kante is rated as one of the best defensive midfielders in the world but Sarri has played the French World Cup winner in a more advanced position this season. And Terry said: “I’m not sure the formation [is the problem], I think it’s the personnel a little bit. Having played with N’Golo in front of me and having watched him in the World Cup, he’s been the best player in that position over the last two years. ‘As a Chelsea fan I would love to see him back in there. Do I think Jorginho can then push forward and open up defences? Yes I do. So that would be my one tweak.”

Terry also named Chelsea’s three potential match-winners in Sunday’s final against Manchester City. The former captain says Eden Hazard, Willian and Pedro are all capable of troubling City. Asked to name the leaders in Chelsea’s dressing room, Terry told Sky Sports, “Within this group, you’ve got Luiz, Toni Rudiger and [Gary] Cahill, even though he hasn’t been playing lately. ‘You’ve got that experience and then the quality in Willian, Hazard and Pedro, who can all win a game on their own.”

Some players want Sarri to adapt and play 4-2-3-1, with Kante holding alongside Jorginho and with Eden Hazard as a No 10. It would have the bonus of affording more opportunities to Callum Hudson-Odoi out wide.
Sarri has even been asked directly by one senior player whether N’Golo Kante can return to his usual holding role to add more defensive stability.

Author’s Take:

Given Sarri’s adamant attitude of not changing his style it seems impossible that he’ll change the formation for the final .
