The blues came across an ‘irking habit’ of their Italian manager.

Earlier this season, Among the Chelsea players Sarri’s smoking habit became the hot topic of discussion.

The Italian tactician is a known chain-smoker, and the reports claim this has been a topic of discussion among Blues players this season. Discussion started when players see Manager Maurizio Sarri and his coaches smoking on the sidelines in training.

In general, the report points towards Sarri losing some authority at Stamford Bridge, as happened with the previous manager Antonio Conte last season.

Chelsea players are said to be unhappy with Sarri’s insistence that training does not start until 3pm, after growing used to early starts under former managers. The squad were called in early on Monday morning after another costly loss at the weekend. Chelsea’s players feel they are being overwhelmed by Sarri’s tactical demands and have become ‘bored’ by his strict training sessions.

Sarri’s future now looks in doubt after the 6-0 thrashing dealt to them by Manchester City on Saturday. This was their worst defeat in the Premier League era.

It remains to be seen if the former Napoli boss can realistically recover from that, with the reports suggesting he has around a fortnight to save his job. As his position comes under scrutiny, and his future at Chelsea is at stake, it is inevitable that little details like his Smoking Habit will come under the microscope too.

Author’s Take

It surely seem a tad unprofessional by the standards of modern football. While training at the ground watching managers and coaches puffing away while players are trying hard to train and maintain peak fitness as is required for athletes these days. Smoking is injurious to health and for an athlete it’s like a poison, whether or not Sarri a Chainsmoker during training it is very unprofessional to show such kind of a attitude while dishing out the instructions to players.
