Confirmed: Barcelona Midfielder’s completes his loan move to Arsenal

Denis Suarez will join Arsenal on loan, pen down Barcelona extension.

The 25-year old Denis Suarez has joined Arsenal on loan until the end of this season and extended his contract with parent club Barcelona until June 2021, the LaLiga champions have confirmed this on Wednesday afternoon.

Suarez spotted in London for further medical tests.

Since the Catalan giants exercised a buyback clause to sign Suarez from Villarreal in 2016, Suarez has made 71 appearances across all competitions and scored eight goals.

The ex-Manchester City and Villarreal midfielder has been linked to a reunion with his former Sevilla boss Unai Emery throughout the January transfer window. Arsenal will pay Suarez’s salary throughout his time at Emirates Stadium and the switch contains an option to buy, even though Barca have extended  the 25-year-old’s deal by 12 months.

Barcelona have tried to push him towards making a permanent move this month and he has had offers, including one from Real Betis, but the 25-year-old midfielder has made it clear he wants to go to Arsenal.

Following the 2-1 win over Cardiff on Tuesday night, Emery said: “My idea is the same. If we can sign one player to come and help us that is good for us. We need wingers. And if one player like Denis Suárez … I know him because he played with me in Sevilla. His qualities are this [as a winger].”

The transfer is Arsenal’s maiden move in the mid-season window and their first signing since announcing head of recruitment Sven Mislintat will leave the club on February 8.

Following are the Twitter reactions:

Suarez is the Gunners’ first signing of the January transfer window and gives head coach Unai Emery another versatile option for the attacking areas of midfield.

Author’s take:

Arsenal made an Agreement and there is still needs an option for Arsenal to buy him in summer. Arsenal are unable to make permanent signings this month because of their high net spend of £63.8m from last summer. They are in the final stage of negotiations with Their advisors. The Barcelona Midfielder has played eight times for Barcelona this season and couldn’t get a much playtime and move away from the club was necessary. Being familiar with the coach it won’t be difficult for Suarez to adjust with the new squad.
