Bjorn Engels has been a fan of the English Premier League for a long time and aims to one day play in the ‘best league in the world’
Engels has always fancied a move to England at some point in his career, and the 24-year -old had made that abundantly clear many times when climbing up the ladder, and this even led to him being mocked and criticised at the start of his career. Even during his time at Club Brugge, the central defender didn’t hide his made fancy for a move to the top tier of English Football (preferably Arsenal!!), though many had at that point felt that he was not ready for the move yet.
Eventually, Engels made the move to Olympiacos, while this season, he is playing in Ligue 1 for Rennes, while on loan. But he is still aiming for a move to the Premier League and wants to play for clubs like Arsenal and Liverpool, though his wife could have a big say in which club he joins. Engels recently revealed to L’Equipe that he never misses an edition of Match of the Day, and is a huge fan of English football. He has even married an English woman, though he insists that this was not a by-product of his fondness for the country’s national sport.
But the Belgian was realistic about not making any moves anytime soon, saying this may now not be the right time. “Not right now, but if my level continues to rise, it will come. I’ve been there a couple of times in the past, maybe next time is the right one. Arsenal? It would be a dream. But playing in England, it would be already top.”
His wife, however, might prefer a different club wearing red: “She’s from Liverpool and all her family is a fan of the Reds. When Everton was interested in me, she said to me laughing: Everton is ok, but never Man United!”

It’s always lovely to hear a player speak his heart out about a move or his love for the sport and a team, so best wishes to Engels in his dream to one day play in England. And it is also nice to know that he is mature enough to understand that he needs to learn a lot more before making a dream move to Arsenal, so let us hope he eventually makes it big.
