Breaking: Ligue 1 striker is finally set for a move to Real Madrid

Real Madrid has been in the transfer market in search of a prolific goal-scorer for some time now and they have finally found one in the form of a Ligue 1 striker.

Real Madrid might not have found a replacement for Cristiano Ronaldo yet, but Los Blancos are working hard to create a new attacking force at the Santiago Bernabeu. And the European champions are all set to bring back their very own, Mariano Díaz, according to Sevilla chairman.

Returning to the home turf?

Los Blancos sold their academy player Mariano Diaz last year after just one season with the senior team. The Striker moved to Lyon in a €8 move at finished the season with a remarkable 21 goal tally. Sevilla was highly impressed by the striker’s performance and was in contact with him for a move back to Spain. But Sevilla Chairman Jose Castro recently revealed that Real Madrid holds a buy-back option for Diaz and are all set to apply it.

“Real Madrid have a buy option they are going to exercise.” Said Castro, who was clearly frustrated with the player’s unprofessionalism.

“But we still have no communication from the player, who has told us that he wanted to play with Sevilla again and again. He has the ability to say one thing or another. We negotiated with Lyon and then they have 48 hours to decide. Real Madrid did it. Annoyed with Real Madrid? Not at all, this is football. We have to keep working.”

“We have done what we had to do, in good faith, with an agent and a player who tells us on videos and audios that he only wants to play in Sevilla.”

Real Madrid is eager to sign another striker, given Benzema’s poor form last season. And the club is reportedly ready to offload their second choice striker, Borja Mayoral to Sevilla if Diaz finally comes back to Madrid. But Jose Castro does not want to think about that right now. “He is one of the players we have dealt with. There is nothing to be happy about here. Another striker is coming.”

The European Champions look all set to finish the transfer window with the signing of Diaz but without a perfect replacement for Cristiano Ronaldo.

Author’s Take:

It is great to see an academy player returning to Real Madrid after his impressive season with Lyon. And despite Sevilla’s frustration, Madrid do have a buy-back option which they are allowed to use. But can Diaz, along with Benzema, Bale, and Asensio be as effective as Cristiano Ronaldo? Or will Madrid regret not going for Ronaldo’s replacement? Let the time decide that!
