Chelsea have entered the race to sign crisis-stricken Aston Villa’s English prodigy Jack Grealish
Despite not having a manager for the upcoming campaign decided yet, Chelsea are still pushing on to secure their transfer targets. The latest man linked with a move to Stamford Bridge is Jack Grealish. The 22-year-old English starlet shone for Villa as the club came within just 90 minutes from securing promotion – losing out to Fulham in the play-offs final.
The loss plunged the Birmingham club in crisis with Villa now facing a real possibility of going into administration. Consequently, they are open to the idea of selling their top stars. John Terry has already left, freeing up the wage bill, and now Grealish could be next.
Football London via TEAMtalk is reporting that Chelsea is also set to compete with Spurs for Grealish’s signatures. Mauricio Pochettino has identified the Englishman as a prime target.

Chelsea have reportedly structured their proposal in a way which would make it a hard-to-refuse for Aston Villa. While the player’s current club values him at £40, the Blues will only offer £30 million. However, Grealish will be loaned back to the Championship side for the 2018-19 season, making it a win-win for both the clubs.
Granted that a club in Villa’s situation would like to get every drop of cash they can, however, a chance to get another season out of Grealish would also be hugely beneficial.
The youngster has been endorsed by Chelsea legend, John Terry himself. Speaking about his compatriot, Terry said:
“He’s a great talent, a great boy and he’s Villa through and through. This club means everything to him.”
“He commits defenders, he’s great on ball, great ability and he has a massive future ahead of him.”
Author’s Take
Once regarded as the wild kid on the block, Grealish has straightened up after suffering a serious kidney injury in training. He was impressive for the Villains this season, with a section of fan base even calling for his inclusion in Gareth Southgate’s travelling party to Russia. £30 million would be a considerable investment for such a young player. However, Chelsea must look at players of much higher calibre if they want to win the Premier League again.
