Clubs on alert as Real Madrid announce that they are ready to sell a star

Real Madrid and Zinedine Zidane are looking to cut their losses and sell their star after a disappointing last few months.

The 25-year-old was in great form last season and easily among the top five Real Madrid players in Zidane’s squad. The Spaniard continued to show exactly why Real Madrid brought him in from Malaga but things soon changed this season. While he did start this season well, both form and injuries have since affected Isco and now it looks like Real Madrid want to cut their losses and sell him.

According to reports from AS, the 2012 Golden Boy winner has been deemed surplus to requirements especially after his performances of late. The report further adds that if Zinedine Zidane is still the Real Madrid boss once the current season ends, then his first act will be selling the 25-year-old. While it is surprising to hear that, especially after the news comes less than a year after Zidane proclaimed that Isco is a key star in the Real Madrid squad, football is a fickle mistress and this shows it.

However, things could get better for the Spaniard as this has lead to rumors about Liverpool being very keen on bringing in Isco to replace their departed Philippe Coutinho. If there was anyone good enough to replace the Brazilian for Liverpool, it would be Isco. Not only is the Spaniard a brilliant creator in chief, Isco can also essentially re-invigorate Liverpool’s attack and chip in with his fair share of goals for the club.

According to journalist Josep Pedrerol, who is very well connected with the Bernabeu, “Isco was deemed to be more of a pivotal player than the Colombian but has had a discreet and underwhelming season so far.

Zidane is a huge admirer of Isco’s style of play and what he can offer the team and for this reason opted to keep faith in the player deeming that he would be instrumental in the creative play of the side.

After a discreet season so far, Zidane feels let down by the player and as things currently stand will request that the club offload the player in the summer transfer market should the French coach remain on the Santiago Bernabeu bench next season.”

Author’s take:

This news comes exactly six months after Real Madrid president Florentino Perez announced that the club has given Isco a new deal that would keep him at the Bernabeu for a long time. The Spaniard’s contract would have expired at the end of the current season, and after a rather brilliant 2016/17, it looks like things have gone down-hill for the playmaker.
