Former Liverpool star backs exciting young Premier League manager to replace Conte

According to former Liverpool midfielder Jamie Redknapp, Conte is losing his job by his fingertips and tips Eddie Howe as a potential replacement for the Italian manager.

Conte’s days at Stamford Bridge seem to be numbered after the Blues suffered yet another embarrassing away defeat at the hands of Watford. Prior to this, the Blues lost to AFC Bournemouth at home by a 3-0 margin with Eddie Howe orchestrating a masterclass. The former Juventus manager has struggled with consistency this season with unfavorable results.

Due to which the side has not been able to defend their Premier League title with leaders Manchester City,  nineteen points above them at the moment. Several managers have been tipped to make their way over to Stamford Bridge during the summer with former Barcelona manager Luis Enrique leading the list. Other candidates include Massimiliano Allegri and Diego Simeone.

Redknapp all praises for Eddie Howe

The former Liverpool and Tottenham man believes that time has run out for Conte, and it is time for the owner Roman Abramovich to look for other options and as per Redknapp, Howe is a good option as any. He said: “It looks like Antonio Conte is clinging to the Chelsea job by his fingertips, If the club makes a change this summer, why not go for Eddie? The time will come when Howe feels he has outgrown Bournemouth and he is more than capable of becoming Chelsea’s first permanent British manager since Glenn Hoddle in 1996.”

The former England International included in his column in Daily Mail that Howe has sparked wonders with Bournemouth, which currently lie 9th in the Premier League table after a string of impressive performances. Redknapp also went on to praise Howe’s sheer determination and believes in the manager to handle a top-six club.

He stated: “For any owner, Eddie Howe ticks every box. Eddie Howe has instilled a real belief and will to win on his side. After a rocky start to the season, they are now seven Premier League games unbeaten and seven points above the relegation zone.

Another top-half finish is not out of the question and it would only highlight what a remarkable job he has done at this club. For me, Eddie is ready to manage a top-six side.”

Things are going to keep getting tough for Antonio Conte as he embraces a tough round of fixtures in February with the visit by Barcelona and trips to both Manchester clubs.

Author’s Take:

The defeat to Watford seems to have sealed Conte’s future with his tactics backfiring and it would take a miracle for the Italian to stay, given the state of recent events. Howe is an interesting option and has definitely managed Bournemouth well, but managing a club with a stature like Bournemouth and making a sudden switch to one of the top teams can lead either way.

As of the moment, Luis Enrique seems the most viable option for the Blues given the success he has achieved with the La Liga giants.
