The Blaugrana revealed on their website today, that Gerard Pique is set to extend his stay at the Camp Nou for the foreseeable future.
Pique, who is widely regarded as one of the best defenders of his generation, will sign a new Contract on Monday. The news has been confirmed by the club, who will tie down their player until 2022 at least. This should be another positive news for the Catalans who are the only unbeaten team in Europe’s top five leagues so far.
Ernesto Valverde would welcome Pique’s stay, as they continue to build an unassailable lead in the La Liga. Having progressed through the ranks of Barcelona’s youth teams, the Spaniard has been a pillar at the back during his club’s success in the last decade. He left Spain for Manchester United but returned back to Catalunya under the stewardship of Pep Guardiola.
Since then, he has amassed 421 appearances for the Liga leaders, scoring 37 goals in the process. A handsome return in itself for a central defender by any means. The 30-year-old centre-back has won almost every trophy up for grabs with his club and country. He has been capped by the Spanish team 94 times, playing a crucial role in their World Cup and European Championship victories.

A statement according to Barcelona’s official website read: “The defender, considered one of the best in the world in his position, has won everything there is to be won at club level for the Blaugrana: three Champions Leagues, six La Liga titles, five Copa del Reys, five Spanish Supercopas, three European Supercups and three Club World Cups.”
“In total, a player who identifies with the club more than anyone has earned 25 trophies. Gerard Pique has played 421 games for Barça and scored 37 goals. This season he has been one of the players most frequently used by Ernesto Valverde, with 25 appearances and two goals to his name.”

Then, at 1:30 p.m., a photographic session will be held on the lawn at the Camp Nou, before giving way to a press conference that will begin at 1:45 p.m.” Barcelona host Alaves at the Camp Nou on Sunday, looking to further increase their grip at the top of the table.
The Blaugrana faithful consider Pique as a legend, and he fully deserves that. Since his arrival from the Premier League, he has cemented a unique place for himself in the history books. This comes amidst Barca’s attempts to tie down a majority of their star players, having already agreed terms with Leo Messi and Andres Iniesta earlier this season.
