Leicester star takes a sly dig at Chelsea’s woes

Ahead of Leicester City’s away fixture against Peterborough in the FA Cup, star striker Jamie Vardy took a shot at Chelsea’s struggles in the January transfer window.

Chelsea aimed to sign several players to bolster their squad heading into the crunch time of the season. But, the Blues have only been able to capture Ross Barkley from Everton.

The pile-up of injuries has added more problems for manager Antonio Conte, who saw his team lose to Arsenal on aggregate in the Carabao Cup semi-final against rivals Arsenal.

Jamie Vardy addressed the media ahead of the crucial fixture and amused the media by asking that with whom he has been linked at present. He said:

“Who have I been linked with today? Chelsea, they’ve been linked with everybody, haven’t they?

The England International striker did not shy away from taking a dig against the Premier League Champions who have been linked with several players so far but did not make any progress with any of them. He went on to assert that he is focused on his current club and the rumours should not be pondered upon. He stated:

“You just have to take things like this with a pinch of salt, it’s just rumours.Usually, it all gets started by someone throwing a few quid on it at the bookies.”

“I’m a Leicester player and I’m just concentrating on Leicester until the club tells me otherwise. And we will be looking to progress to the next round of the cup.”

Apart from Jamie Vardy, fellow striker Islam Slimani also gathered interest from the London side for a prospective loan deal.

Chelsea’s last hope resides with the transfer of Edin Dzeko and Emerson Palmieri from AS Roma which the London side must ensure to complete in time as the transfer deadline nears.

Author’s Take:

Chelsea has failed to utilize the transfer window much to the disappointment of Antonio Conte. The side desperately needs new players with several players out and the crucial phase of the season approaching. The Blues will be in huge trouble if they fail to land in any more players in the remaining days.
