BREAKING: Real Madrid agree personal terms with long term target

AS is reporting that Kepa Arrizzabalaga has already signed a contract with Real Madrid

Real Madrid is on their way to reenergizing their squad. The transfer window is just 4 days in and Madrid reportedly already has a deal in place for Kepa Arrizzabalaga. The young goalkeeper, who is out of contract at the end of the season, has long been on Madrid’s radar. However, the player’s arrival date has not yet been decided due to a recent injury he suffered. AS reports that there are two joining dates on Kepa’s contract; January 2018 and June 2018.

Kepa on his way to Real Madrid?

The publication’s source has chosen not to reveal the financial details of the contract. The duration of it, on the other hand, will be six years in all likeliness, mirroring the deals of Theo Hernandez and Dani Ceballos. The aforementioned duo was also brought in from Spanish rival clubs.

The reason for the dual date of arrival is down to Kepa’s injury issue. Initially, Zidane wanted to bring in the player in January but the move will not go through unless Kepa reaches full fitness. The player, reportedly, still has 10 days to regain his fitness. AS also reports that Madrid is willing to wait as long as they have to ensure that Kepa arrives at the Bernabeu at the peak of his abilities.

Kepa has been a rock at the back for Athletic Bilbao

The delayed date of June 2018, however, might very well work in the player’s favour. He is expected to gain a much more substantial monetary windfall if he signs for free in summer. There was serious interest from several clubs in the young Spaniard. but they soon left the race as it became clear that Madrid has made signing him a priority.

Author’s Take

Kepa is a talented goalkeeper. If the reports are to be believed then putting in a dual date for the contract is helpful both for the player and the manager. It will allow both the parties to think about the rest of the season without having to rush into a transfer.

Kepa’s arrivals would raise questions on Keylor Navas’s future at the Bernabeu. Real’s backup goalkeeper, Kiko Casilla will definitely be on his way out of Madrid after Kepa’s arrival.
