Ronaldo demands signing of star striker as Benzema replacement

Real Madrid talisman Cristiano Ronaldo has asked the club to sign Harry Kane as a Karim Benzema replacement, reports suggest.

Tottenham striker Kane has been in phenomenal form lately, having scored two hat-tricks in his last 2 games. His hat-trick against Southampton on Boxing Day took him to 56 goals for 2017. It allowed Kane to usurp Lionel Messi and Edinson Cavani as the year’s top scorer.

His 3rd goal last Monday was also his 39th goal in the Premier League for the calendar year, breaking Alan Shearer’s previous record of 36.

Kane now sits atop the Premier League top scorer charts, with 18 goals in 20 games. He is also the reigning Golden Boot holder. The England international’s 29 goals led Spurs to 2nd in the league, their best ever finish.

Kane has been on a record-breaking spree this season

It seems that the 24-year-old’s record-breaking spree has caught the attention of a certain Cristiano Ronaldo.

Incumbent Real #9 Karim Benzema has been in rotten form lately, and has scored only 5 goals in 20 games this season. The Santiago Bernabeu faithful have grown frustrated with the Frenchman’s drought, and the striker has been the subject of frequent boos.

And according to Don Balon, even Ronaldo has grown to become frustrated with Benzema. It is said that club president Florentino Perez agrees with his Portuguese superstar.

Ronaldo himself has seen a decline in his game this season. Although he is currently the top scorer in the Champions League, the 32-year-old has only scored 4 league goals this term. The five-time Ballon d’Or winner feels that signing Kane would also improve his personal output.

Kane would not be the first player to make the switch from North London to Madrid. In recent years, midfield maestro Luka Modric and winger Gareth Bale have made the same career progression. They have played crucial parts in helping Real lift 3 Champions League titles in the past 4 years.

Ronaldo is said to have grown frustrated of Benzema’s ill form

Real will have seen Kane’s talents first hand this season. The Spanish champions were placed in Group H in the Champions League, along with Spurs. The English side finished group toppers, holding Real 1-1 at the Bernabeu before beating them 3-1 at Wembley.

Kane’s clever run forced Raphael Varane to divert a cross into his own net in Madrid, while he set up Christian Eriksen’s third at home.

Real have struggled to keep up to last season’s success, and find themselves in 4th place into the winter break, 14 points off leaders and arch-rivals Barcelona.

Spurs too have enjoyed a rocky start domestically, and sit 6th in the Premier League. Kane will be gunning to become the first player in Premier League history to score 3 hat-tricks in a row, as they take on bottom club Swansea City on Tuesday night.
