Barcelona ready to make the highest bid in football history?

The Reds are in no mood to let their star player leave for anything less than a transfer fee which will break some records and make some new ones.

Barcelona is desperately chasing Philippe Coutinho for the last 6 months. And the Merseyside club has not made it any easier with repeated negative response to the Catalans. But the Spanish giants are expected to chase the Brazilian again in the current Transfer window as the gruelling second phase of the season awaits.

Coutinho is also interested in joining the Camp Nou outfit in January as he does not want to wait for the season to end. The Brazilian’s representatives are currently working on the move after Liverpool’s attempts to change the player’s mind have failed.

Little Magician for €150m:

The Reds have now decided to put a hefty price tag on the player to keep him for the rest of the season. Barcelona’s 3 bids in summer were immediately rejected by Liverpool with the last bid going up to €130m.

According to the recent reports, Liverpool are looking for a deal worth at least €50m than Barcelona’s Ousmane Dembele fees. The Catalans signed the Frenchman from Dortmund for a club record fees €105m in the summer.

Barcelona will have to break the bank in Ernesto Valverde’s attempts to strengthen the midfield. As Coutinho’s dream move to the Camp Nou will cost the board nothing less than €150m.

The transfer fees, if paid by Barca, will make Coutinho the second most expensive player in history behind Neymar. (Mbappe is technically still on a loan) The ex-Barca player moved to PSG in the last summer for a world record transfer fees of €222m. The bid of €150m alone will be a new record as PSG never submitted a bid for Neymar’s transfer.

Coutinho has been in a great form at the Anfield, despite the uncertainties around his future. The playmaker has scored 12 goals in 20 appearances as Liverpool sit 4th in the league table.

Author’s Take:

There are just too many rumours around Barca-Coutinho saga and it has become difficult to point at the correct one. But in today’s transfer market, which is full of crazy fees, €150m for a player of Coutinho’s quality is not a very big amount. Plus, if Liverpool are ready to let the player go for €150m, Barca will be ready with their cheque-books.
