Real Madrid has not given up their pursuit of Premier League goalkeeper

Real Madrid and Thibaut Courtois’ camp are still in contact over a possible transfer for the Belgian

Real Madrid’s season went from bad to worse after a chastening 3-0 defeat at the hands of Barcelona. Catalans beat Madrid at their own turf leaving several questions for Zidane and his men to answer. Several players find their place in the team under threat after a disappointing 6 months.

Perhaps the player most under pressure would be Keylor Navas. Real Madrid has continued their search for a new goalkeeper despite Navas’ performance in the Classico. The Costa Rican kept the scoreline down to a respectable one and was Madrid’s best player.

Navas’ concerns seemed to be over now that Madrid has all but sealed a deal for Athletic Club’s Kepa Arrizzabalaga. However, AS is reporting that Los Blancos have not given up on signing Thibaut Courtois from Chelsea. The Belgian earns £100,000-a-week at Chelsea and has only 18 months remaining on his current deal.

He rejected Chelsea’s advances for a contract extension as they couldn’t agree on financial a packet. The Blues wish to keep their goalkeeper is also threatened because of Courtois’ private situation. The Belgian wants to stay in Madrid, closer to his kids, in a city he considers his move.

Thibaut Courtois has earned admiring glances from the Spanish capital

Chelsea is prepared for the Belgian’s departure but will do anything to stop him from going. The Stamford Bridge outfit is ready to make him the highest paid goalkeeper in the world should he choose to sign a contract extension.

Meanwhile, if that does not happen, Chelsea would like to finalise a deal with any other interested as soon as possible. Antonio Conte has shortlisted Sevilla’s Sergio Rico and Atletico Madrid’s Jan Oblak should Courtois choose to move.

The Bernabeu outfit was told by the Belgian’s camp that the player wants to play for Zidane and the reply was that of interest from Madrid.

Author’s Take

Real Madrid is looking to overhaul their goalkeeping department. Should the protracted moves go through, Courtois will be Madrid’s new No.1 with Kepa acting as an able deputy. Keylor Navas and Kiko Casilla have made several mistakes this season, becoming one of the biggest reasons why Madrid are 14 points behind in the league. Any move for Courtois will surely be record-breaking. As several reports have stated, Perez will go all in next summer to make sure that Madrid’s dismal 6 months are not repeated.
