Barcelona superstar warns his team despite 3-0 victory at the Bernabeu

The Catalan club’s captain is not ruling Real Madrid out of the La Liga race even after their 3-0 victory.

Barcelona ran riot at the Santiago Bernabeu with a 3-0 victory against their arch rivals Real Madrid. The league leaders are now in more commanding position at the top of the table with 9 points ahead of Atletico and whopping 14 ahead of Real Madrid.

The Catalans exhibited a clinical display in the second half to thrash Los Blancos with goals from Luis Suarez, Lionel Messi and Aleix Vidal.

Iniesta definitely won the battle of midfielders in the Clasico

Real Still in the Race?

The club captain Iniesta put an excellent shift in the midfield, despite having an injury scare early in the first half. But regardless of having a 14 point cushion against their rivals, the midfielder is not ruling out the Madrid outfit in the race for the league triumph.

“I do not think the distance in points shows the distance in quality between the two teams,” Iniesta told beIN SPORTS after the game.

“We are very respectful of Madrid. We know they are one of the best clubs in the world, so we never rule them out for LaLiga.

“There are still so many matches to play and Madrid, in their history have always proved they can pull off the impossible.”

Impressive Second-Half

The veteran applauded his team-mates for handling the pressure in the first half as Madrid were clearly the better team for the first 45 minutes. But was happy with the table-turning display by the Catalans in the next 45 minutes.

“I want to congratulate the whole team on a great win. In the first half, Madrid had more chances than us. They were playing a more attacking style of football to us and were stronger than us.”  Said the midfielder.

“In the second half, we turned the tables and were more comfortable.”

Barcelona will go into the Christmas break with the 9 point margin over 2nd placed Atletico. The Real Madrid on the other hands have problems to solve in the holiday season as they are 14 points off the pace, albeit having played one less game.

Author’s Take:

There is no one as modest and down to Earth as Iniesta. The midfielder is correct in warning his team-mates to not take the La Liga race lightly in the second half. But quite frankly Madrid have an uphill task of regaining the confidence in 2018, let alone the 14 points difference.
