Antonio Conte eyeing job with La Liga giants

Under pressure Chelsea manager Antonio Conte is apparently interested in managing Real Madrid, as per football insider Ian McGarry.

Conte enjoyed a fruitful first season with the Blues after leading the club to their sixth Premier League title and the final of the FA Cup.

However, Chelsea’s current situation and the Italian’s tension with the board has led Ian McGarry to believe that Conte could be out of Stamford Bridge this season.

McGarry believes that the most probable destination for Conte would be Real Madrid. He said: “I think he wants the Real Madrid job.”

The former journalist also went on to mention the pressure on Real Madrid at the moment. Additionally stating the possibility of the sacking of current Los Blancos manager, Zinedine Zidane. He stated:

We will see this Saturday morning when Barcelona play Real Madrid, 11 points behind them in the La Liga title race.

“If Barcelona turn over Real Madrid, the pressure will be massive on Zinedine Zidane.

“For Florentino Perez [Real Madrid president], the last thing he wants to do is sack an icon of his famous club and I think a sacking will not take place.

“It will simply be a word in his ear ‘it’s time to go Zinedine’, because the players are not responding to you, or the training isn’t good enough or whatever the reasons are behind that misfiring squad.

The pressure on Conte has increased after a goalless draw against Everton.

Florentino Perez’s opinion of Conte

McGarry feels that the Real Madrid president is a huge fan of the Italian manager after seeing the success he achieved at Stamford Bridge in his first season. He said: “I think Conte is desperate to get that job. I think he is admired by Florentino Perez for what he did in one season at Chelsea which was very impressive although without Champions League football.”

McGarry also mentioned that Carlo Ancelotti is tipped to replace Antonio Conte. With the current Blues manager most likely to leave the club at the end of this season.

Antonio Conte could replace Zidane at Madrid with Carlo Ancelotti taking over Chelsea after the Italian’s departure

Due to the Italian’s way with transfers, McGarry thinks that Conte’s next destination would either be Spain or Germany.

Author’s Take:

It seems like Chelsea’s trend of sacking managers will continue with Conte being next on the list. Both the managers are currently under immense pressure. Either man’s team is a long way behind the leaders despite having a very successful last season. Real Madrid should be a bit more patient with Zidane as the Frenchman has proved to turn things around in the past.
