After a great match, star to miss out on 3rd T20

There is a bad news for Sri Lankan fans as their senior all-rounder Angelo Mathews will be out of action for two weeks

India had a near perfect match in Indore. They beat Sri Lanka by 88 runs, their third biggest win in terms of runs. Sri Lanka won the toss and put India in to bat. The Indian batsmen were scoring too easily and the Lankan bowlers had no answer.

To add to their worries, their former captain and senior player Angelo Mathews just bowled 2.2 overs and went off due to a hamstring injury. He did not come to bat as well in the second innings.

Although it wouldn’t have made a big difference even if he had come to bat at No. 11. Angelo had been troubled by a hamstring injury since last year, due to which he did not bowl for a long period of time.

He decided to fight against injury and started bowling once again since the limited-overs leg of Sri Lanka’s tour of India started. He bowled pretty well in the 4 games previous to this match. But was again kept out of the game due to his hamstring issues.

Angelo was coming in to bowl to Rohit Sharma in the 12th over when he had just reached the joint-fastest hundred in T20 cricket. He pulled out of the delivery and held his hamstring. He went into the dressing room straight away and did not take any part in the game.

The Sri Lanka team management has confirmed that the 30-year-old will be out of action for two weeks and hence will not play the 3rd T20 against India at the Wankhede.

AUTHOR’S TAKE:

Sri Lanka would be even more depleted with the absence of their senior player Angelo Mathews and would have to find a suitable replacement. It will not be easy to find one as Angelo leaves a gap in the middle order as well as in the seam bowling unit.

Indian batsmen are in top form and they have a very good chance for clean sweeping Sri Lanka once again.
