ODI team for South Africa announced – some big changes

India announce their ODI team against South Africa. There are some interesting changes as in-form KL Rahul misses out.

India have had a successful Series against Sri Lanka which was meant to be a preparation series for South Africa. The team for Test Series starting 5 January was selected a few days back.

Today, the team for the ODI series has been picked. There are some interesting picks in the squad. KL Rahul who has played brilliantly in first T20s against Sri Lanka has been left out. Also, Umesh Yadav, who would have been an important fast bowler in South Africa, has not been picked. Instead, Mohammed Shami has been picked

Kuldeep Yadav, who is not a part of the Test series is going to be a part of the ODI team. Shardul Thakur and Kedar Jadhav are also new entrants to the team that played ODIs against Sri Lanka recently.

Virat Kohli will be back in the limited overs format after an eventful month of his life. Shikhar Dhawan and Bhuvneshwar Kumar are rested from T20 series against Sri Lanka to preserve them throughout the South Africa tour. They will be back in limited overs action.

India have 9 batsmen, 2 all-rounders and 6 bowlers in their 17-man squad. South Africa are currently ranked No. 1 in ODI rankings. India are ranked second with only 1 rating point behind them. It will be a closely contested series.

The Test team players will get accustomed to the conditions there and can quickly adjust to the change in format as they do in their home conditions. The players that will be flying later just for the limited overs leg will have to practice a lot in those conditions.

Experienced campaigner MS Dhoni will be with those players to guide them on what needs to be done to get along with the conditions.

AUTHOR’S TAKE:

India will face a tough challenge in the Test series as well because of their top players being in form. As they switch on to the ODI and T20 series, not much will change as most of the players will be the same across formats.

The Indians are also in the best of their form as they will look to take advantage of that and tame the South Africans. The series will be lip-smacking for the fans.
