Lionel Messi and Luis Suarez are raging at Ernesto Valverde for his decision to bring in Antoine Griezmann
It seems that Camp Nou can’t be a happy place for too long. After a blistering start to the season, Barcelona seems to have hit a rough patch of late. They have drawn 3 of their last 6 games in all competitions and suffered an injury blow in the form of Samuel Umtiti. The French defender has been one of Barca’s standout players this season and in all probability will miss the El Classico on 23rd December.
However, the off-field issues and politics have started rearing their ugly head at Camp Nou. It is being reported by Diario Gol that Lionel Messi is using his influence behind the scenes to stop Antoine Griezmann’s arrival at Camp Nou. He sees Greizmann as a threat to his good friend Luis Suarez’s place in the starting eleven. The Uruguayan has been disappointing this season. Consequently, Valverde is ready to break the bank for Griezmann.

Ernesto Valverde is looking to splash the cash in upcoming transfer windows. A new striker and a centre-back are Valverde’s top priorities. While the list of centre-backs is long, Griezmann has emerged as the only real target to fulfil Valverde’s striking ambitions. However, Barcelona is not the only club vying for the Frenchman’s signature. Manchester United has long been interested in the Atletico forward while Real and PSG have also registered interest.
The 26-year-old will not come in cheap for either of those teams. Atletico is demanding for his release clause to be paid which currently stands at £90 million. The fact that Valverde is ready to pay such a hefty fee for a forward despite the presence of Luis Suarez at the club has left Uruguayan’s good friend Lionel Messi disgruntled.

Lionel Messi is a huge figure in the Barcelona dressing room. His influence with the Barcelona board is unparalleled. If the Argentine doesn’t want Griezmann to be at Barcelona then he won’t. On the other hand, a move for the Frenchman will only be beneficial for Barca, a player of Griezmann’s ilk will help in improving the quality of the squad. Moreover, this will only spur Suarez into performing better for the club.
