Real Madrid starlet tipped to win the Ballon d’or

Marco Asensio has slowly proven that he is one of the best young talents around. His Real Madrid teammate Lucas Vasquez certainly believes so, even betting on the fact that the Spaniard will take over Cristiano Ronaldo’s mantle.

Marco Asensio has stood out as one of Spain’s brightest talents and has become Real Madrid’s golden boy with 14 goals in just 12 games. The 21-year-old is slowly becoming one of Zidane’s top men at Real Madrid.

Lucas Vasquez, on the other hand, believes that his teammate will eventually become Cristiano Ronaldo’s heir and even win the Ballon d’Or himself, one day. In an interview, the Spaniard said “He is spectacular. He is at a very high level and still has to grow. We hope to enjoy him a lot. He is very humble and takes everything with ease.”

“It’s soon to say about the Ballon d’Or, but I think so.”

The irrefutable heir to Ronaldo’s throne?

The 2016/17 season was the 21-year-old’s standout year, as he scored 9 goals across all competitions. He produced a remarkable streak of scoring in his competition debuts; with goals in his first appearances in the La Liga, Champions League, Copa Del Rey, and the Spanish Super Cup. He even picked up the pressure in the absence of Ronaldo, with the Portuguese man suspended as Asensio bailed out Real Madrid with a brace against Valencia.

However, it’s not just his goal-scoring abilities that have put the youngster on the map. It’s also his willingness to track back defensively as well as his passing accuracy which borders on incredible. The Spaniard is as dependable with the ball as Toni Kroos and Luka Modric. The youngset has a magnificent average passing accuracy of 90% over the last two seasons.

Author’s take:

Despite the fact that he’s just 21, there is little to say that Madrid’s rising star will ever be held down by the burden placed on his shoulders. Marco Asensio has just made his first competitive start for Spain. This comes after can only be called as a stellar start to the season. He has four goals in five games already, and the future looks bright. Maybe Vazquez’s prophecy will come right.
