Fantasy Premier League – Game Week 9 Review

West Ham 0-3 Brighton

How is Slaven Bilic still in the job at West Ham? They should have handed him his p45 at half time on Friday night! Avoid West Ham assets until he’s gone.

Owners of Markus Suttner were left frustrated as Gaeten Bong started at left back and picked up the clean sheet points.

Goalscorers: Murray (2), Izquierdo

Assists: Groß, Propper

Chelsea 4-2 Watford

The Blues had to fight back from 2-1 down to beat Watford. Alvaro Morata disappointed, picking up a yellow card and going off early. His replacement Michy Batshuayi Scored twice to stake a claim for more regular game time.

Pedro would be a super FPL option if could nail down a regular starting place, he got on the score sheet and also registered an assist. Eden Hazard was a differential going into GW9 and he picked up his first attacking return of the season with an assist.

Worryingly for owners of Chelsea defenders, they’ve failed to keep a clean sheet in their last three matches. Cesar Azpilicueta scored his 1st goal of the season to add to his four assists. He looks a better option than Marcos Alonso at the moment.

Watford again were impressive despite going down 4-2. Richarlison in particular was very impressive again. He’s delivered attacking returns in each of his last four games (2 goals & 3 assists). He’s going to be a popular pick in the GW10 contests with a home tie against Stoke City.

Abdoulaye Doucoure scored his 4th goal of the season. He’s scored with every shot he’s had on target, so it’s likely that his goals will dry up. The young Brazilian is the man you want from the Watford midfield.

Goalscorers: Batshuayi (2), Pedro, Azpilicueta, Doucoure, Pereyra

Assists: Hazard, Willian, Pedro, Bakayoko, Richarlison

Huddersfield 2-1 Manchester United

Nobody seen this result coming. United conceded as many goals in this fixture as they had done all season previously. Phil Jones went off injured which is a worry for owners while Mkhitaryan started on the bench. Romelu Lukaku got an assist but a lot of FPL managers are loosing patience with him.

Aaron Mooy scored his first goal since GW2 while Tom Ince finally got an attacking return. Goalkeeper Lossl picked up an unlikely assist. Goalscorer Laurent Depoitre has stared the last five matches but he could lose his place soon now that Steve Moune is fit again.

Goalscorers: Depoitre, Mooy, Rashford

Assists: Lossl, Ince, Lukaku

Manchester City 3-0 Burnley

Another comfortable win for City and another clean sheet. Jesus and Sterling were benched in typical Pep Guardiola fashion to frustrate FPL managers. Otamendi was the highest points scorer in this one with his goal and clean sheet. He’s proving to be a great defensive option this season. Leroy Sane has 5 goals and 4 assists in his last four home matches! KDB joins teammate David Silva at the top of the assist charts for 2017/18. Sergio Aguero has scored 6 goals and provided 3 assists in his last 4 league appearances!

Goalscorers: Aguero, Sane, Otamendi

Assists: Sane, De Bruyne, B.Silva

Newcastle 1-0 Crystal Palace

Mikel Merino was the match winner in this one. Matt Ritchie provided the assist to bring his tally to 5 for the season. Plenty of managers put faith in goalkeeper Rob Elliot for GW9 and they were pleased to see him keep the clean sheet.

Palace have showed some signs of improvement under Roy Hodgson but it’s probably best to avoid their assets for the time being.

Goalscorer: Merino

Assist: Ritchie

Stoke 1-2 Bournemouth

The Cherries picked up a much needed three points at the Britannia. Junior Stanislas is on the radar now after his converted penalty and assist. He’s started the last four matches and could be a nice differential with a kind run of fixtures after Chelsea in GW10. Both Josh King and Jermaine Defoe didn’t feature against Stoke and with Callum Wilson set to return very soon, it’s best to avoid the Bournemouth strikers. Defensively, they’ve only kept one clean sheet in their nine games so far.

Stoke have been poor this season, they sit in 17th place in the league on just 8 points. Mame Biram Diouf has three in three but don’t get too excited by those stats. He could easily go 5 games without scoring now. Choupo-Moting is the pick of the Stoke players in FPL this season and he got his 2nd assist of the season against Bournemouth.

Goalscorers: Diouf, Surman, Stanislas

Assists: Choupo-Moting, Stanislas, Afobe

Swansea 1-2 Leicester

Fernandez frustrated his owners with an own goal while his central defensive partner Alfie Mawson got himself on the score sheet. Mawson is always a goal threat and should get a few more this season.

Jamie Vardy backers were left frustrated again with a blank while his strike partner Shinji Okazaki scored his 4th of the season. Riyad Mahrez has hit a bit of form with a goal and two assists in his last two games. He’s a bit too expensive to invest in in Fantasy Premier League but with no budget restrictions on Sportito, he looks a good option for your team for the GW10 contest.

Goalscorers: Mawson, Okazaki, Fernandez (OG)

Assists: Ayew, Mahrez (2)

Southampton 1-0 West Brom

A sensational solo goal from Sofiane Boufal won the three points for the Saints. They registered their 4th clean sheet of the season. I included Van Dijk in my differentials piece ahead of GW9 and he produced the goods. With Brighton and Burnley up next, hold on to your Southampton defenders.

West Brom face Man City, Chelsea & Spurs in their next four fixtures. Avoid.

Goalscorer: Boufal

Everton 2-5 Arsenal

This turned out to be Ronald Koeman’s final game in charge at Everton as he was relieved of his duties on Monday. Avoid Everton players until the new manager is in place and we see which players he/she favours. The likes of Calvert-Lewin could lose their starting places under the new gaffer.

Arsene Wenger named his strongest starting XI of the season against the Toffees and they produced a dominant performance. Some managers will be ripping up their squads this week to fit Alexis Sanchez in after his goal and assist.

Nacho Monreal scored his 2nd goal in three matches and looks the pick of the Arsenal defenders at the moment despite not playing in the wing back role.

Goalscorers: Rooney, Niasse, Sanchez, Ramsey, Lacazette, Monreal, Ozil

Assists: Sanchez, Ozil, Ramsey, Xhaka, Wilshere

Red card: Gueye

Spurs 4-1 Liverpool

Liverpool’s defensive frailties were clear to see again on Sunday. One of my golden rules in FPL is to never pick Pool defenders. They can’t defend. Salah is the pick of the Liverpool team this season, he’s got 5 goals in 9 league matches.

After failing to score in August, Harry Kane now tops the goal-scoring charts in the Premier League after his 4th brace of the season and he finally scored at Wembley in the league! Ben Davies and Danny Rose were both on the Spurs bench so it’s probably best to avoid their full backs from now on as Davies/Rose & Trippier/Aurier will share game time. Dele Alli scored his first goal since GW3 which could kick start his season. I still favour Eriksen though.

Goalscorers: Kane (2), Alli, Son, Salah

Assists: Trippier, Vertonghen, Kane, Henderson
