Mikel Arteta has repaired his relationship with one Arsenal player over the course of this season after they had a disagreement.

Mikel Arteta clearly values the importance of squad harmony at Arsenal.

However, at the very highest level of the game, where competition for places in the team is intense, egos and player happiness can be difficult to manage.

What’s more, Arteta has been very reliant on a small core of trusted Arsenal players this season, whilst many others have been reduced to bit-part roles. 

Leandro Trossard became a more important figure in the side as the campaign went on. However, for much of the first half of the season, the Belgian attacker played second fiddle to Gabriel Martinelli.

It has been suggested before that Trossard must be unhappy with a back up role at Arsenal. 

In any case, the 29-year-old seems satisfied with his lot at the Emirates Stadium now.

As reported by The Times, although Trossard can be “stubborn” and has had “a difference of opinion” with Arteta this season, the pair now enjoy a positive working relationship. 

The report also revealed that the Spanish coach delivered an extensive PowerPoint presentation to Trossard, detailing how he can develop his game and improve as a player, at 10pm on the day after his £27 million arrival from Brighton and Hove Albion was confirmed in January 2023.

The forward has certainly taken his game to a new level under the guidance of the Spanish coach.

In the second half of this season, Trossard hit a fine streak of form. He chipped in with a number of vital goals over the course of the run-in and established himself as a regular starter on the left-flank. Trossard even drew comparisons with Arsenal legend Freddie Ljungberg. 

Over the course of the campaign, he racked up 17 goals in total, across all competitions. Only Bukayo Saka was more prolific for Arsenal this season. Trossard has been described as the best finisher in the Arsenal squad, and for good reason.

Arsenal are now set to offer Trossard a new contract, suggesting that Arteta is more than happy to keep working with the player.

He will be one of the elder statesmen in the squad next season, following the impending departures of Mohamed Elneny and Cedric Soares. He will be desperate to maintain his prominent position in the pecking order too.
