Arsenal strong favourites to sign £50m forward hailed as the next Dennis Bergkamp

As Mikel Arteta ignites his search for a striker, Arsenal are now said to be favourites for a young forward often compared to Dennis Bergkamp.

Arsenal finished the season with Kai Havertz as their undisputed starter up top, having made the false nine role his own.

It almost feels as if Gabriel Jesus doesn’t necessarily have an obvious role in this Arsenal team since his injury return.

And when it comes to Eddie Nketiah, well it seems as if the writing is on the wall for the Hale End favourite.

Should Arsenal buy a new striker, there’s surely no way Nketiah can play any minutes, given he’d effectively be fourth choice by that point.

Despite all of the success this season, it feels as if it will be a summer of change for the Gunners, with several players coming and going.

And although Alexander Isak currently looks like the obvious signing for Arsenal, a player who is currently lighting up the Premier League, a deal looks very difficult.

As a result, it certainly wouldn’t be a surprise if Edu Gaspar began to look elsewhere.

Arsenal favourites to sign Bologna’s Joshua Zirkzee amid stiff competition

Perhaps two more attainable names that have been mentioned are Dutchmen Brian Brobbey and Joshua Zirkzee.

Both are having fine seasons at Ajax and Bologna respectively, and although interest in Brobbey seems very early, Arsenal are now said to be favourites to land Zirkzee.

That’s according to Italian journalist Daniele Galosso of Tuttosport in Italy, who recently shared his update.

The journalist explained that there was a lot of interest in the £50m-rated striker who has scored 11 goals in the Serie A this campaign.

He explained: “On Zirkzee, however, the competition is high. From what we understand, Arsenal has the advantage for the Dutchman.”

It’s interesting to consider if that would be a move that satisfied Arsenal fans should it come to fruition.

23-year-old Zirkzee is clearly an excellent talent, he wouldn’t be compared to Bergkamp otherwise, but he isn’t the renowned goal-scorer that’s expected to arrive at the Emirates.

Perhaps Zirkzee would present a fairly similar skill-set to Havertz, which could be seen as a positive or a negative.

Arsenal can go down the route of committing to playing a false nine consistently, or they could sign a ‘fox in the box’ type, a player to introduce when it’s not quite clicking.

All that being said, William Saliba has just predicted that one Arsenal player will take over at the club next season.
