The three Arsenal players who seriously impressed out on loan, they could all now leave

Arsenal have been hit and miss sending players out on loan in recent years, yet the 2023/24 season has been a noticeable success for a number of reasons.

With Mikel Arteta creating a squad that is now fully his, only four first-team players departed on loan for the year, with 12 academy prospects also being shipped out in order to gain vital experience playing the senior game.

Although there were some disappointing spells such as Khayon Edwards‘ six-month spell at Leyton Orient and Charles Sagoe Jr’s move to Swansea City in January, the majority of loan moves worked out pretty well for the Arsenal.

Here are the three players who thrived the most away from the Emirates Stadium this season.

Albert Sambi Lokonga

Albert Sambi Lokonga is best remembered at Arsenal for a bright few months after arriving in 2021 from R.S.C. Anderlecht before seeing his form fizzle out completely, yet this season has seen the midfielder reborn.

A season-long loan move to newly-promoted Luton Town was confirmed in the summer, and the Belgian international has been nothing short of remarkable for the Hatters, even if Rob Edwards’ side were relegated back down to the Championship.

With reports suggesting that Arsenal are open to selling Lokonga, the Gunners could get a good fee for the 24-year-old midfielder, who will no doubt have suitors after an impressive year out on loan with Luton.

Arthur Okonkwo

From one Arsenal player who might be leaving to one who has already said his goodbyes, Arthur Okonkwo enjoyed another stellar year out on loan, this time with Welsh side Wrexham.

Having starred in the Austrian Bundesliga last season with Sturm Graz (remember this team), a move to League Two felt like a sideways step for Okonkwo, yet the 22-year-old made the best out of the loan spell and then some.

The youngster was named League Two goalkeeper of the season, and with Wrexham winning promotion to League One, Okonkwo will be a man in demand this summer, with the Arsenal youngster set to leave as a free agent.

Mika Biereth

We return to Sturm Graz for our final Arsenal loan success story of the season, with striker Mika Biereth playing a huge role in the Austrian side’s title-winning season, ending RB Salzburg’s dominance in the division.

Having impressed in the first half of the year with Scottish side Motherwell, Biereth was recalled by Arsenal and sent out on loan to Sturm Graz, where the Danish youth international thrived with nine goals and four assists, with the striker’s overall tally for the seasons standing at 15 goals and nine assists.

With reports already out there that Arsenal, like Lokonga, will cash in on Biereth, the 21-year-old forward has shown he has the potential to play at the highest level in Europe, and a big move could be on the cards this summer.
