What Man City fans were chanting about Arsenal after going 2-0 up v West Ham

Manchester City fans were quick to mock Arsenal supporters after their side quickly took a 2-0 lead against West Ham United.

In order to stand any chance of being crowned champions, Arsenal needed Manchester City to drop points against West Ham United.

However, whilst the Gunners toiled against Everton at the Emirates Stadium, Pep Guardiola’s side raced into a lead in the North West.

Phil Foden put the Cityzens ahead with just two minutes on the clock. The England star then doubled his own tally and Manchester City’s lead in the 18th minute.

At that stage, Manchester City fans could not resist mocking the North London club. As posted on X by account @City_Xtra, a chant of: “Are you watching, are you watching, are you watching Arsenal?!,” could be heard around the Etihad Stadium.

Meanwhile, Mikel Arteta’s side fell behind against that Toffees, as a deflected Idrissa Gana Gueye free kick wrong-footed David Raya. However, the Gunners hit back in an instant, as Martin Odegaard picked out Takehiro Tomiyasu on the edge of the box with a cut-back. The left-back slammed the ball into the bottom corner with an unerring finish.

Events also took a dramatic turn further north, as a Mohammed Kudus overhead kick halved Manchester City’s lead.

How Mikel Arteta has taken Arsenal forward

The atmosphere inside the Emirates Stadium was re-energised by West Ham’s goal, with the players heading in at the break with renewed hope but a job still to do.

Arteta has already done an extraordinary job in making Arsenal genuine title contenders. Just to keep pace with Manchester City up until the final day of the season is an achievement in and of itself.

Arteta has transformed Arsenal, and has built a young, hungry squad. The Gunners’ key players, such as Martin Odegaard, Bukayo Saka, Declan Rice, and William Saliba, amongst others, are all tied down to long-term contracts and have their peak years ahead of them. The Spanish coach will still believe that his side can deliver far more in the coming years.

Arsenal have made great strides of progress this season, and are now set for a busy summer transfer window in which Arteta will seek to strengthen his ranks further. Today also marked a likely farewell for many Arsenal players.
