Former Premier League manager explains why Arsenal title clash with Everton may be 'tight'

Arsenal have one more game left in the Premier League title race, but their fate is out of their hands as they need Manchester City to drop points.

The Gunners are heading into the final day of the season two points behind Pep Guardiola’s side, and Mikel Arteta has admitted that he would love his former manager David Moyes to do him a favour as Man City face West Ham.

If Man City draw or lose at home, an Arsenal win would see them come from behind to lift the title against the odds, but Arteta’s side cannot afford to be complacent against Everton.

Former Premier League manager Martin O’Neill has now backed Arsenal to beat the Toffees, but has predicted the game to be a tight affair.

Speaking to TalkSPORT, O’Neill, who managed Aston Villa and Sunderland among others, claimed that the pressure Arsenal will face could see the final game becoming a close-knit affair.

“I think this might be tight because of nervousness around the stadium. I think Arsenal may just prevail 2-1,” he stated.

Arsenal fans will be hoping for a comfortable win, particularly given that Everton are ‘on the beach’ now that they have secured Premier League safety, but the game may not be that straightforward.

Arteta has called for focus from his squad, and his side do need to get the job done against Everton without worrying about the Man City game.

If Arsenal win, then there will be an air of acceptance that nothing more could have been done in the title race. However, if Arsenal fail to beat Everton, and Man City fail to win, there will be a lot of anger, frustration and regret at the missed opportunity.

Arsenal tend to perform well on final days, and beat Everton 5-1 in 2022 in the same gameweek. However, this is the first time in years that they will be in the title race on the final day, and it remains to be seen how they will cope with such pressure despite going in behind City.

If Arsenal score an early goal, then they will be confident that they can cruise to victory, but if they go behind, the pressure will be raised on them to deliver in front of the Emirates crowd.
