Two long-serving Arsenal players will 'say goodbye' at Emirates after final game v Everton

Arsenal will head into their final game of the season with a slim chance of Premier League glory, but even if they fall short, it is expected to be a positive day at the Emirates.

Mikel Arteta’s side will need to beat Everton and hope that Man City do not beat West Ham if they are to win a first title since 2004.

Although it is a fairly unlikely scenario, it is the first time in years that Arsenal have even been in the race on the final day, and after what has been an outstanding campaign, the team will receive a raucous reception from the Emirates crowd at full time, no matter what happens in the title race.

It will be a momentous day regardless, as several players will likely appear in front of the Arsenal fans for the final time, and two are now confirmed to be heading for the exit door.

Cedric Soares and Mohamed Elneny to bid Arsenal farewell after Everton clash

Fabrizio Romano has now confirmed that Cedric Soares and Mohamed Elneny will leave Arsenal at the end of this season as their expiring contracts will not be renewed.

“Cedric Soares and Mo Elneny will both say goodbye to Arsenal fans this weekend. It’s over as both players will leave Arsenal as free agents,” he posted on X.

With Arteta boasting a fully-fit squad, neither player will be in the starting XI or even on the bench, but both will be present for a send-off.

Cedric has appeared five times across all competitions this season, whilst Elneny appeared in six games, and both are two of the longest-serving players in the squad.

Cedric has stayed longer than most expected him to, having initially joined in January 2020 before signing a surprise four-year deal.

He never established himself as a starter, but did conduct himself in a professional manner, and it was simply a signing that never worked out.

Elneny is Arsenal’s longest-serving player, having joined in January 2016, and is also the last of Arsene Wenger’s signings to still be at the club.

The midfielder’s work-rate, attitude and commitment to the team made him a popular figure amongst some of the Arsenal faithful, as well as his teammates.

Elneny’s name is regularly sung by Arsenal’s travelling support, and after 161 appearances in nearly eight years, he is sure to receive a warm reception as he bids farewell to the club he joined to initially replace Arteta in midfield.
