Premier League CEO makes Arsenal call that's fuelling fan theories about Man City charges

Premier League chief executive Richard Masters has now made a decision involving Arsenal which has sparked fan speculation.

The Premier League title race between Arsenal and Manchester City will be decided on Sunday.

With both the Gunners and Pep Guardiola’s side in with a shout of being crowned champions, preparations for a trophy and medal presentation ceremony will be underway at both the Emirates Stadium and the Etihad Stadium.

The odds, however, will certainly favour the reigning champions. If Manchester City win, they will claim their fourth successive title triumph. Meanwhile, Mikel Arteta’s side must overcome Everton and need Manchester City to drop points against West Ham United.

Arsenal fan Piers Morgan still has faith that the Hammers will pull off a shock result in the north west, having recently held a conversation with West Ham boss David Moyes which gave him hope.

However, with Manchester City being in control of the title race at this late stage, it is perhaps surprising that Premier League chief Richard Masters has taken the decision to attend the match at the Emirates Stadium on Sunday, as reported by The Athletic.

This means that he will not be on hand to present the Premier League trophy to Manchester City should they win the title.

Premier League CEO’s decisions to attend Arsenal match fuels fan speculation

This has led to speculation from football fans that Masters is actively trying to avoid that scenario due to the 115 charges that the Premier League have levelled against the Cityzens.

One fan on X stated: “So he doesn’t want to give city the trophy because they cheated but will still allow them to compete in the league and win in four times in a row, nice.”

Another supporter said: “Goes to show his hands are tied until the courts make their decision but he clearly doesn’t agree with Man City winning with outstanding charges.  Shame they couldn’t get even 1 charge to stick this season.”

Arsenal and other Premier League sides waiting on outcome of 115 charges against Manchester City

Manchester City have had 115 charges against pending against them since February 2023.

These charges are made up of 54 instances of failing to provide accurate financial information between 2009 and 2018, 14 occurrences of failing to provide accurate financial details for player and manager deals between 2009 and 2018, 5 failures to comply with FFP rules between 2013 and 2018, 7 breaches of Premier League spending rules between 2015 and 2018, and 35 counts of failing to co-operate with the Premier League’s investigations between December 2018 and February 2023.

At this stage, it is impossible to say what the outcome of these charges will be. Until the matter is resolved though, there will be resentment and discontent amongst the fanbases of Premier League clubs.
