Man City confirm key player will miss West Ham as title race takes new twist for Arsenal

Arsenal and Manchester City have taken the Premier League title race to the final day of the season, but the odds are still against the Gunners.

Mikel Arteta’s side will need a favour from his former coach David Moyes as Man City take on West Ham at the Etihad Stadium, whilst Arsenal will need to beat Everton to stay in with a chance.

Man City are two points clear at the top of the league, but Arsenal’s superior goal difference means that if they win, and Man City lose or draw, the Premier League title will come to the Emirates Stadium for the first time.

Arsenal are currently blessed with a fully fit squad heading into the final game, and Man City were in a similar situation until now, as one vital player will be missing for their clash.

Man City goalkeeper Ederson to miss final day of Premier League title race

Manchester City have now confirmed that Brazil goalkeeper Ederson will miss their final game with an eye injury he sustained in their victory over Tottenham Hotspur in the previous match.

Ederson was withdrawn in the second half after defender Cristian Romero collided with him, resulting in a potential head injury.

City went on to win the game, much to the delight of some of the Spurs fans in attendance, but it could have ended very differently as a direct result of the goalkeeping situation.

Any team losing a player of Ederson’s quality and experience for a must-win game would usually suffer, but Arsenal fans now holding out hope that his absence could make a draw or defeat more likely for Man City will likely be disappointed.

Man City have German goalkeeper Stefan Ortega to replace Ederson. He is arguably the best backup goalkeeper in the Premier League, even above Aaron Ramsdale, and he showed this in one moment in City’s victory over Spurs.

Arsenal fans had their hearts in their mouths as Spurs attacker Heung-Min Son raced through on goal in the late stages of the game, with City just 1-0 up. If he scored, and the game ended in a draw, Arsenal would have become title favourites.

However, Ortega produced a sensational stop to prevent the Spurs star scoring, and this moment may go down as a turning point in the title race. The 31-year-old will now come in from the start against West Ham, but City will be confident that he will be able to deliver a fourth title in a row, much to Arsenal’s frustration.
