Adrian Clarke has suggested that one Arsenal star is now way better than an £80m Chelsea player who Mikel Arteta really wanted to sign.

The Gunners have been the most prolific team in front of goal in the English top-flight this season, with Arsenal bagging an incredible 88 goals in 36 games with the likes of Bukayo Saka setting club records for their feats this term.

With Kai Havertz hitting impressive numbers as well this season, Arsenal’s goalscoring threat has never been more pronounced, with every player on the pitch chipping in with the figure at some stage this campaign.

And one forward, according to Clarke, is now better than a Premier League forward who cost £80m.

Leandro Trossard labelled better than Chelsea’s Mykhailo Mudryk

Speaking on Handbrake Off, the former Arsenal Star claimed that Leandro Trossard has been better for Arsenal than Mykhailo Mudryk has been for Chelsea, who joined the Blues last year for £80m over the Gunners.

With the Ukrainian international managing just four Premier League goals this season, Trossard’s numbers completely blow Mudryk’s out of the water, with the Belgian hitting his 11th in the league this campaign on Saturday against AFC Bournemouth.

Given that Arsenal initially wanted Mudryk last year, Trossard turning out to be a perfect attacking addition has worked wonders for the Gunners, whilst Chelsea have struggled massively to get anything out of their £80m signing since last January.

Clarke said when asked if Mudryk would be better-suited to Arsenal than Trossard: “He wouldn’t be scoring the same amount of goals. Trossard is a really classy player and a good hard-working team player, we saw that he can scamper back and win it back.”

Arsenal proved right to sign Trossard over Mudryk last year

When Arsenal missed out on Mudryk last January, few would have expected Trossard to be as good as he has been for the Gunners after arriving from Brighton & Hove Albion.

Yet some 15 months on from the saga, Arsenal and Arteta have never been proven more right in going for the plan B, with Trossard one of the Gunners’ most goalscorers since joining last year.

This season has seen the Belgian international become a fan favourite in north London, and Trossard’s ability to score big goals in huge games has been a massive asset for Arsenal in key games this season.
