Arsenal star lauded for 'brilliant' thing he did in Bournemouth win through sheer 'desire'

Arsenal recorded a superb 3-0 victory over Bournemouth to keep their Premier League title hopes alive, and Declan Rice has earned all the plaudits.

The midfielder was sensational yet again as he delivered a complete display, and he played a part at both ends of the pitch.

Rice was strong defensively as he helped win the ball high up the pitch, and Arsenal continued their remarkable record at the back as they kept another clean sheet.

The 25-year-old was also excellent going forward, with his dribbling causing Bournemouth nightmares, and he ended the game with a goal and an assist to his name.

Rice’s assist for Leandro Trossard’s goal has been hailed as ‘Messi-like’ by Joe Cole, and his desire in that goal was praised after the game.

Declan Rice praised for determination in Arsenal goal

Speaking on TNT Sports match coverage, commentator Lucy Ward praised Rice for the sheer determination he showed when providing the assist to Trossard, which saw him win the ball in the box before laying the ball off superbly.

“That’s all about Declan Rice. All about his desire to win the ball high. He recognises exactly where the ball is going to land and he just lays it off,” she stated.

“The nerves were starting to set in for the Gunners and that is brilliant from Rice. It’s not textbook – but it works.”

Arsenal were utterly dominant in the first half against Bournemouth, but could not finish their chances until Bukayo Saka converted a penalty after Kai Havertz was brought down towards the end of the half.

However, Bournemouth grew into the game at the start of the second half, and there were some unnerving moments as Arsenal had to defend against some dangerous attacks.

With the score still at 1-0, and heavy pressure on Arsenal to secure all three points, it was Rice who stepped up, as he won the ball in a difficult position, before placing a perfect flick into the path of Trossard, who finished well.

His commitment to closing down the loose ball has shown in defensive sequences, but this move proved why he should be playing in a more advanced role, as his interception in the final third directly led to a goal, and also showcased how he has adapted to a more attacking position on the pitch.
